The amount of R$ 4,823.10 was transferred via Pix by a law firm that had won a lawsuit and needed to pass the funds to its clients.
By mistake, due to the similarity between names, the sum ended up in the woman’s account, who was not part of the process.
Unable to contact her, the firm filed a lawsuit to recover the money.
The hearing was scheduled at the Judicial Center for Conflict Resolution and Citizenship (Cejusc) of Lages.
Modest Proposal Moves Lawyer
The woman attended the hearing visibly nervous and emotional. During the session, she explained her situation and proposed to pay R$ 100 per month, even with sacrifice, to return the amount.
The sincerity of her account and her living conditions deeply touched the lawyer responsible for the case.
After a brief conversation with the partners, he returned to the virtual room with an unexpected decision.
Forgiveness and General Emotion
The lawyer announced that the debt, already adjusted to over R$ 5 thousand, would be forgiven.
According to the conciliator Eliane Freitas Benin, he only asked that the woman include the law firm in her prayers.
The gesture moved the woman, her family, and even the law students who were following the hearing.
Eliane reported that everyone congratulated the lawyer for his noble attitude, recorded in the session’s minutes as a tacit remission of the debt.
“It was a moment of greatness, of humanity, beautiful and moving. An example that there are still good people in this world,” she reported.
Justice That Seeks to Restore Relationships
Judge Geraldo Corrêa Bastos, head of the Special Civil Court of the district of Lages, emphasized the importance of dialogue in consensual justice.
According to him, when the parties are willing to listen and understand each other, more humane and lasting solutions arise.
“Conciliation is not just a way to close processes, but to restore relationships and promote social peace,” he concluded.
