Kia Picanto For Less Than R$ 30 Thousand In The Used Market: Find Out Everything About The Kia Hatchback That Was Underrated For Years And Assess If It Is Worth Buying In 2024.

The Kia Picanto, a small hatchback from Kia, often faces prejudice in the used market, but it hides qualities that deserve attention. Equipped with a reliable engine and features found in more popular models in Brazil, the Picanto has been underrated for years. However, this subcompact hatchback can be an excellent option for those seeking economy and practicality, especially since it can be found for less than R$ 30 thousand. In this article, you will find out if it is worth investing in the Kia Picanto in 2024.

History Of The Kia Picanto In The Automotive Market

YouTube video

The Kia Picanto, the subcompact hatch from the South Korean brand, was one of the first subcompacts to find relative success in the Brazilian market. Sold here through three generations starting in 2006, the model even utilized the mechanics of the HB20 in its second generation but left the country in 2019 after a third generation that was on sale for a short time.

The model’s career continued in Europe, where the Kia hatchback is also known as Morning, and the brand recently announced the arrival of a new line.

At that time, it was competing against prominent names like UP and Uno, measuring 3,595 mm in length, 1,595 mm in width, 1,490 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,385 mm. Despite being a small and older subcompact hatch, the model already features 14-inch alloy wheels.

The Kia Picanto has a ground clearance of 15.5 cm and weighs 970 kg, making it suitable for urban environments. Like all cars in this segment, the trunk is also small, reaching up to 200 liters.

Kia Picanto Delivers The Same Engine As The HB20

What few people know is that, even though it was imported, the models that arrived in the Brazilian market were equipped with the same engine as the Hyundai HB20. Thus, the mechanical part is already well-known.

Even so, original parts for the Kia hatchback are usually not cheap. With a three-cylinder inline engine, the subcompact hatch delivers a maximum power of 80 hp with ethanol and 77 hp with gasoline at 6,200 RPM, producing 10 and 9.6 kgfm, respectively, at 4,500 RPM.

Both are paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. In terms of fuel consumption, the model can deliver up to 11.4 km/l in urban areas and 13.1 km/l on the highway.

As for equipment, the Kia Picanto comes with three-point seatbelts for all occupants, front airbags, air conditioning, height-adjustable steering wheel, electric rear window controls, electrically folding mirrors, power steering, automatic transmission, internal fuel flap release, among others.

In terms of infotainment, it features radio, USB connection, CD player, multifunction steering wheel, and tachometer. Currently, it is possible to find the Kia Picanto at great prices below R$ 30 thousand on the main sales platforms in the country.

What To Note When Buying The Kia Hatch?

Before purchasing the subcompact hatch, it is important to pay attention to some details of the unit in question; a common complaint is that the fuel gauge misreads, showing an empty tank as full. In the worst-case scenario, the float needs to be replaced, which can be found for around R$ 100.

Despite being innovative, having an automatic transmission in this category, the 4-speed transmission used was somewhat outdated, which limited performance and resulted in higher consumption compared to manual versions.

In some units, the window also does not roll up automatically when locking the car; check if the unit you are buying has this feature, as it is very useful and sought after in the market.
