The manufacturer of sports and luxury cars, Porsche plans to produce and develop batteries for electric cars. The batteries are smaller, more efficient, and stronger compared to current batteries. The cheapest car from the brand in Brazil is offered from R$ 339 thousand. And even being the “entry-level” option, if we can put it that way, the expectation is high for that price.

The new battery factory of the German manufacturer will be built in the city of Tübingen, in the metropolitan region of Stuttgart, home of Porsche. According to the manufacturer, the production of batteries for electric cars will have a reduced scale until 2024, however, it did not disclose the investment size in the project.
Partnership with Cellforce
Porsche will control 83.75% of the electric car battery production that will be carried out in partnership with Cellforce, a specialist in lithium-ion product research. It was reported that the German government is also a shareholder in the new venture and will invest around £ 60 million in the form of financing.
According to Cellforce CEO Torge Thönnessen, the factory’s goal is to achieve a minimum capacity of 100 MWh per year. Blume, from the German manufacturer, explains that with this capacity, the new venture will play a crucial role in the research, production, development, and sale of batteries. The executive states that the aim is to produce batteries for up to 1,000 electric cars per year.
The Promise of 2018
The Porsche Taycan, presented along with the company’s electrification plan in 2018, is an electric sports sedan that has an 800-Volt architecture, which brings a Performance Plus battery pack.
Thus, the pack has a storage capacity of 93.4 kWh. The electric vehicle from the German manufacturer has two electric motors that give the vehicle a power of 476 horsepower.
Its starting price is currently R$ 615 thousand. In addition, the Taycan Cross Turismo is available for pre-orders in Brazil with deliveries slated for the second semester of this year and may reach a price of R$ 685 thousand. Therefore, Porsche plans to have half of its models fully electric or plug-in hybrids by 2025.
