Imetame Port Advances in Construction and Completes Strategic Stage of the Container Terminal in Aracruz, Espírito Santo.
The construction of Imetame Port, located in the municipality of Aracruz, northern Espírito Santo — about 80 km from the capital, Vitória — has just reached a significant milestone: the completion of the first 230 meters of the container terminal.
The project, which is scheduled to open in the second half of 2026, is progressing rapidly and promises to transform the region’s port logistics. The forecast for this first phase is 750 meters of quay, with the already completed section representing almost one-third of the total.

With a capacity for 9,100 vehicles, solar panels on deck, and liquefied natural gas engines, the Höegh Aurora is the world’s largest car carrier, and the ship that can embark an entire city’s worth of cars in a single voyage will transition to zero-carbon ammonia by 2027, becoming the first large cargo ship in history to completely abandon fossil fuels.
According to the company’s schedule, the terminal will start operations with two berths for docking.
The estimate is that, in the first year of operation, the new port will handle about 80,000 containers and 500,000 tons of general cargo.
The infrastructure of the initial phase was planned to ensure an annual movement of 300,000 TEUs.
When operating at full capacity, Imetame Port will have the potential to handle up to 1 million TEUs per year, establishing itself as one of the country’s main logistics hubs.
International Standards and Commitment to Deadlines
According to Geraldo Magela Giacomin Pereira, interim director of Imetame Logistics Port, the completed section adheres to strict technical standards.
“We have achieved an important milestone in our project with the completion of the first 230m of the container quay. This milestone confirms our commitment to the project delivery timeline, which is expected to begin operations in 2026,” he emphasized.
The director also informed that in this phase, all concreting works, basic infrastructure, and horizontal road signaling have been completed, complying with international safety and traffic control standards.
Imetame Port Aims for Global Connections
The ambition of the project goes beyond national transport.
The terminal’s goal is to “receive the largest ships in the world” and position itself as a strategic logistics center, integrating trade routes between Brazil, Mercosur countries, and especially, with services catering to Asia.
With this vision, Imetame Port seeks to strengthen the logistical competitiveness of Espírito Santo and attract new international trade flows.
