Açu Petróleo records handling record at its terminal in Porto do Açu operating for the main oil companies operating in Brazil
Operations at the Port of Açu continue to grow and Açu Petróleo, a partnership between the Prumo Group and the German Oiltanking, has just recorded, in 2019, a record handling at its terminal at the Port of São João da Barra, in Rio de Janeiro.
Operating for the main oil companies operating in Brazil, Açu Petróleo, has already handled more than 53 million barrels this year, that is, 13 million more than the total recorded in 2018, which was 40 million barrels. It is worth remembering that Petrogal renewed the contract and will operate in Porto do Açu until 2023.
The fact of operating with all exporters and the renewal of the contract with Petrogal will help the company to end the year with even greater numbers.
According to Victor Snabaitis Bomfim, CEO of Açu Petróleo, “We have an efficient and modern terminal, which enables a safe, fast operation and at a lower overall cost for our customers. And, more and more, we realize that these differentials are essential in the decision-making of oil companies”.

Açu Petróleo estimates to reach 65 million barrels of oil handled by the end of 2019 and in addition to the renewal of the contract with the Portuguese oil company Petrogal, the Spanish company Repsol also moved around 1 million barrels produced in Campos de Sapinhoá (Santos Basin) .
The terminal
With a privileged location, the Açu Petróleo Terminal has a draft of 25 meters deep and a licensed capacity to handle up to 1,2 million barrels of oil/day, which makes it the only private terminal in the country capable of operating with the largest ships in the world, of the VLCC class (Very Large Crude Carrier).
The licensed capacity of the Açu Petróleo Terminal is to handle up to 1,2 million barrels of oil per day, but the company wants to expand its gas pipeline network and tank park to meet the demand for oil exports, which could reach almost 3 million barrels a day.
