By March, the Port of Pecém, in São Gonçalo do Amarante, Ceará, nearly reached the mark of 5 million tons moved. According to data from the Pecém Complex, the movement in March had an increase of 8% in discharges and 47% in shipments. The monthly average also saw an increase, previously it was 1,546,934 tons and rose to 1,654,766 tons.
Increase in Cargo Movement at the Port of Pecém, Ceará
The traffic observed at the terminal in Ceará this year is also slightly higher than the monthly average of 2019 – the year with the highest traffic in the history of the Port of Pecém. Compared to March 2020, more cargo was discharged and shipped at the port of the state of Ceará.

Danilo Serpa, president of the Pecém Complex, said they have high hopes for economic recovery this year. It has been proven that the Port of Pecém has seen growth since the first month of 2021. New businesses, such as the transshipment of fuels, contributed to this growth in the first quarter, which was 4,964,298 tons by the end of the quarter, almost 5 million tons moved by the Port of Pecém.
Terminal Movement in Ceará
The accumulated volume of loading and unloading at the Port of Pecém in 2021 was 4,964,298 tons, which was 11% higher than the same period in 2020, when it reached 4,458,655 tons. The discharge volume increased by 16%, from 3,069,549 tons in 2020 to 3,556,046 tons in 2021, and shipments increased by 1%, from 1,389,107 tons in 2020 to 1,408,251 tons in 2021.
In terms of cargo, bulk solid is the most significant cargo in terms of tons, with a gross weight of 2,634,321 tons (53%), followed by container cargo with 1,201,388 tons (24%), and loose cargo with 857,069 tons (17%) and 271,520 tons of liquid bulk (5%).

Cabotage in the Port Complex in Ceará
In cabotage within the port complex in the state of Ceará, the main products handled were: ore (1,106,496 tons), pig iron (112,766 tons), grains (105,996 tons), mineral fuels (42,855 tons), etc. The main cargoes shipped from the Port of Pecém were pig iron (301,696 tons), salt (120,106 tons), milling products (45,729 tons), aluminum and its products (33,435 tons), mineral fuels (28,717 tons), plastics and their products (25,154 tons), and so on.
In long-haul discharges, the main processed products are mineral fuels (1,562,893 tons), pig iron (169,549 tons), fertilizers (6,373 tons), machinery (5,930 tons). In terms of long-distance shipments in the state of Ceará, the main highlight is the processing of pig iron (333,856 tons), ore (109,500 tons), fruits (58,305 tons), and mineral fuels (35,985 tons).
In cargo movement at the Port of Pecém, Ceará, in the first two months of the year (January and February), more than half of the cargo was transported along the coast, totaling 1.69 million tons, an increase of 27% compared to last year. In cabotage transport, iron ore, steel plates, grains, and salt stand out among the transported goods.
