According to the Brazilian Navy, the center of the cyclone is 700 km (377 nautical miles) southeast of Arraial do Cabo, RJ, moving south.

The Navy also reports strong wind forecasts along the coastline between the cities of Arraial do Cabo and Ilhéus, in BA; and also between the cities of Tramandaí, in SC, and Santos, SP.

There are many oil platforms installed in the regions mentioned above, keeping operating oil companies in the risk areas alert to ensure the safety of their crew and units.

One of them is Shell, which issued the following statement to Petronotícias: “Shell Brasil’s offshore operational units (FPSO Espírito Santo and FPSO Fluminense) are aware of this forecast and prepared for these adverse weather conditions. Under these conditions, activities on board are constantly evaluated, always prioritizing the safety of the crew and the environment.”

Equinor also issued a statement regarding the situation: “Equinor continuously monitors weather and sea conditions in the regions where it operates and will take all necessary measures if this event is confirmed.”

Ocyan also sent a statement: “Ocyan keeps its assets prepared for any eventualities due to changes in weather conditions. The respective technical teams, safety teams, and all leadership reinforce, daily, among other topics, preventive actions offshore. Safety is the company’s main value.”

Cyclones or Subtropical Storms usually do not cause damage on land as they move offshore, southward. However, they can cause heavy rainfall on land.

Federal Government agencies issued a joint alert at the beginning of the week regarding the possibility of heavy rain in the area covering Espírito Santo, Goiás, Minas Gerais, and Rio de Janeiro, as well as the Federal District. In recent hours, the capital of Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, experienced disruptions due to heavy rain.
