The New Unit of the Counter Sale Program in Ouricuri Strengthens Rural Supply, Boosts Small Producers, and Expands Food Security in the Sertão do Araripe
On the last day of October 22, the Counter Sale Program (ProVB) gained a new boost in the Pernambuco Sertão, according to a news article published.
The National Supply Company (Conab) inaugurated the Ouricuri Hub, consolidating an initiative that promises to transform the lives of hundreds of small producers and strengthen the corn supply in the region.
The action results from a technical agreement between Conab and the Intermunicipal Consortium of Sertão do Araripe (CISAPE), in partnership with the Municipal City Hall of Ouricuri, and marks an important step for the sustainable development of the regional agribusiness.

Iran became the largest buyer of Brazilian corn with 9.1 million tons, but the cargo leaves the field heading towards a global tension zone: sanctions, military risk in the Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz, and dependence on fertilizers turn the giant client of the national agribusiness into an alert for the next harvest.

Saudi Arabia bought nearly 397,000 tons of Brazilian chicken, but now wants to create a poultry empire in the desert: the self-sufficiency plan targets local production, threatens shipments from BRF, JBS, and Seara, and raises an alert for Brazil in the halal market until 2030.

War in Iran raises fertilizer prices, triggers alert in Brazilian agribusiness, and leads the government to seek new suppliers to avoid impacts on the harvest.

Soybeans plummet in Chicago with favorable weather in the United States, and Brazilian producers hold off sales due to price pressure and lack of market response.
The Strength of Family Agribusiness and Institutional Cooperation
The new Sales Satellite Unit (USV) was installed in a structure adapted by the City Hall of Ouricuri, following Conab’s storage standards.
The technical cooperation with CISAPE also involves the sharing of operational costs and the acquisition of equipment among the 14 consorted municipalities.
The project, supported by local managers and agricultural leaders, aims to strengthen family livestock, ensuring access to corn used in the feeding of goat, sheep, pig, and cattle herds.
The Executive Director of Operations and Supply of Conab, Arnoldo de Campos, highlighted that the initiative represents a strategic pillar for the fight against hunger, ensuring the supply of foods such as meat, milk, and eggs, essential to the diet of northeastern families.
In addition to Arnoldo, the event was attended by the superintendent of Conab in Pernambuco, Elizaldo Sá, and representatives of rural associations.
Both highlighted the positive impact of the new hub on the balance of the local agricultural market and the appreciation of small producers.
Currently, about 80% of the corn sold in the Northeast goes through the Counter Sale Program (ProVB), reinforcing its relevance in the regional economy.
Counter Sale Program (ProVB): Sustainability, Logistics, and Digital Access in the Sertão do Araripe
The creation of the hub in Ouricuri also meets strategic logistical criteria.
The municipality was chosen for its central location and adequate infrastructure, which facilitates the distribution of products to neighboring locations like Araripina, Bodocó, Exu, Granito, Ipubi, and Trindade.
Initially, two Conab employees will operate at the unit, linked to the Storage Unit in Recife, with occasional support from the consorted cities.
The forecast is to move about 500 tons of corn in the first three months, directly serving 500 registered rural producers.
Interested parties can register in person at the hub or remotely, through the Digital Counter, an online tool that simplifies farmers’ access to the state-run public policies.
Each 60 kg sack of grain costs R$ 75, a price compatible with the wholesale market.
Thus, the Counter Sale Program (ProVB) guarantees not only the supply of the input at fair prices but also the economic and social sustainability of family livestock in the semi-arid region.
Regional Development and Strengthening Food Security
With the installation of the USV in Ouricuri, Conab reaffirms its role as a regional development agent, promoting public policies aimed at family agriculture and strengthening the countryside.
The initiative benefits producers from cities like Afrânio, Dormentes, Moreilândia, Parnamirim, Santa Cruz, and Santa Filomena, among others, covering a territory that concentrates thousands of small producers.
The Counter Sale Program (ProVB) acts as an essential link in this chain, offering basic inputs at accessible prices and fostering productive inclusion in the Sertão do Araripe.
The measure also reinforces the state’s commitment to food and nutritional security by ensuring the supply of the herd and the continuity of rural activities, even in drought periods.
According to Conab, the new hub strengthens a production chain that generates income, jobs, and economic stability, with direct reflections on the quality of life of rural families.
The opening of the unit was approved by Conab’s Executive Board, backed by technical and legal opinions, evidencing compliance with the company’s statute and current legislation.
Thus, the Ouricuri hub consolidates the public policy of corn commercialization, maintaining the institutional mission of ensuring supply, income, and sustainability in interior Pernambuco.
The Counter Sale Program (ProVB) reaffirms, therefore, its strategic importance as a support instrument for family agriculture and a driver of development for northeastern Brazil.
