The Ministry of Mines and Energy Gathered Representatives of GLP Resellers to Strengthen the Gas for the People Program, Promoting Security and Energy Inclusion for Millions of Brazilian Families
The Gas for the People Program has been gaining national prominence by uniting efforts between the federal government and liquefied petroleum gas (GLP) resellers, according to a report published.
On October 15, the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) held a strategic meeting with representatives from associations and unions in the sector to align the next steps for implementation.
The meeting aimed to ensure that the new public policy is applied safely, efficiently, and transparently, benefiting about 17 million Brazilian families in vulnerable situations.

Launched on September 4 of this year, the program is scheduled to start in November and aims to ensure access to cooking gas at more affordable prices, integrating agencies such as the National Agency of Petroleum (ANP), the Federal Savings Bank, and the Single Registry (CadÚnico).
GLP Resellers and the Adoption of the New Distribution Model
The participation of resellers in the Gas for the People Program is voluntary but requires compliance with specific requirements.
To participate, companies must be duly authorized by the ANP and have a regular tax situation with the Federal Revenue.
Additionally, they must formalize the Term of Adhesion with the Federal Savings Bank, following the criteria established by the MME.
During the meeting, the National Secretary of Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Biofuels, Renato Dutra, emphasized the central role of resellers.
According to him, these agents are the direct link between the government and the beneficiaries, ensuring that public policy achieves its goal of promoting the safe and responsible use of GLP.
This partnership is essential to facilitate logistics and service to families registered in the CadÚnico, strengthening trust in the new distribution model.
Federal Savings Bank and ANP Increase Transparency and Security in the Process
The integration between the MME, the ANP, and the Federal Savings Bank reinforces the government’s commitment to transparency and governance of the Gas for the People Program.
The Federal Savings Bank will be responsible for financial management and the accreditation of participating resellers, ensuring that resources reach their destination correctly and controlled.
The ANP will play a technical role, overseeing the compliance of operations and ensuring that only duly registered resellers participate in the program.
Representatives from various regions of the country were also present at the meeting, such as unions from Piauí, Ceará, Pernambuco, Paraná, and Greater São Paulo.
This broad participation demonstrates the sector’s reach and interest in contributing to a public policy that seeks to democratize access to energy.
Social and Economic Impact of the Gas for the People Program on Brazilian Families
With the Gas for the People Program, the government aims to benefit approximately 50 million people across the national territory.
Priority will be given to families with a monthly per capita income of up to half a minimum wage and registered in the CadÚnico, especially those who already receive Bolsa Família.
The MME estimates that the initiative will help reduce domestic risks, promoting the correct use of gas and replacing unsafe practices such as the use of firewood or charcoal.
The action will also boost the economic sector, strengthening the resale chain and increasing the number of formal jobs in the energy sector.
By fostering the participation of small and medium resellers, the program boosts regional development and ensures greater predictability for market agents.
The ongoing dialogue between the MME, the ANP, the Federal Savings Bank, and reseller associations shows that the government is committed to transforming the Gas for the People Program into a solid instrument for energy and social inclusion.
