The Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN), through the Announcement 32/2024, has opened applications for the free online (EaD) course of Improvement in Environmental Education and Climate Justice in the Northeast. Scheduled to start in the second semester of 2024, this training aims to empower public education professionals on crucial issues for the environment and climate, focusing on the northeastern region. A total of 550 places will be offered across support centers located in several cities in the Northeast.
Course Objective and Workload
The main objective of the free course at the Federal Institute (IFRN) is to enhance the knowledge of teachers and education professionals on environmental education and climate justice, enabling these concepts to be applied in their pedagogical practices. The course will be offered in a blended (EaD) format, with a total workload of 180 hours, of which 40 hours will be in-person and conducted in meetings on Saturdays at the support centers. Activities will include lectures, discussion forums, and seminars, along with a continuous evaluation of participants.

In total, there are 550 places in the free course, distributed among support centers in various cities, including Salvador (BA) 60 places, Petrolina (PE) 60 places, Canguaretama (RN) 70 places, João Pessoa (PB) 60 places, Nossa Senhora da Glória 60 places, Piranhas (AL) 60 places, Brejo Santo (CE) 60 places, São Luis (MA) 60 places, and Teresina (PI) 60 places. Each center offers between 60 and 70 places, with part of them reserved for quotas according to current legislation. There is a distribution of places for broad competition, people with disabilities, and candidates self-declared as black, brown, indigenous, or quilombolas.

The selection process includes affirmative actions, with reserved places for people with disabilities (5%) and self-declared black, brown, indigenous, or quilombolas (20%). The selection will be based on document and curriculum analysis, considering, among other criteria, the candidate’s length of service as an education professional. The candidate must also prove a link with the public education network, being eligible both for those who passed public exams and those who were hired.
Registration Requirements
To participate, one must be a professional in education with a complete degree and proven experience in the final years of elementary education in public schools. Additionally, the candidate must have regular internet access and an active email, since much of the activities will be conducted in the EaD format. Registration will be done exclusively online, on the Candidate Portal of the Federal Institute IFRN.
Timetable for the Selection Process
The timetable for the selection process starts with the application period, which occurs from September 21 to October 1, 2024. Candidates wishing to request a fee waiver have until September 25 to do so, with the results of the fee waivers being published on September 27, 2024. The preliminary results of the applications will be published on October 7, and the final results will be released on October 30, 2024. Online pre-registration will take place between October 31 and November 3, 2024, with classes scheduled to start in November 2024.
