For 20 years, Milton França, 56, has been selling coconut lime juice on the streets of Pelourinho, in Salvador (BA). With a recipe refined over two years, the street vendor earns R$ 140 thousand annually and has even attracted celebrities like Spike Lee and Péricles. Now, the family business is expanding to Farol da Barra, another tourist attraction in Bahia.
Milton started as a street vendor at 16, selling coffee and bags of water. At 40, he created the lime and coconut combination after experimenting with ingredients like mint and ginger. “At first, it was bitter. I adjusted it until it was all about quality,” he reveals. Today, he sells 100 liters of juice a day in the summer, at R$ 15 for a 500ml cup.
