For 20 years, Milton França, 56, has been selling coconut lime juice on the streets of Pelourinho, in Salvador (BA). With a recipe refined over two years, the street vendor earns R$ 140 thousand annually and has even attracted celebrities like Spike Lee and Péricles. Now, the family business is expanding to Farol da Barra, another tourist attraction in Bahia.
Milton started as a street vendor at 16, selling coffee and bags of water. At 40, he created the lime and coconut combination after experimenting with ingredients like mint and ginger. “At first, it was bitter. I adjusted it until it was all about quality,” he reveals. Today, he sells 100 liters of juice a day in the summer, at R$ 15 for a 500ml cup.

In addition to the fixed location in Pelourinho (Rua Jogo do Lourenço, 58), the duo is now serving at Farol da Barra. Social media is their ally: videos on TikTok and Instagram account for 30% of new customers, according to Ábia.

The juice from the street vendor has already been enjoyed by Regina Casé and filmmaker Spike Lee, who visited the stand after seeing posts on social media. The drink has also become a tourist attraction: 60% of sales come from visitors from other states, boosting average revenue to R$ 11.6 thousand per month.
