Cellulosic ethanol is made from the bagasse and straw of sugarcane. In Piracicaba (SP), the group already has a plant that produces this type of fuel, which, according to the businessman, has its international demand heated due to the carbon sequestration it generates.
“We want to build three plants of this size, with the production of 300 million additional liters of second-generation alcohol,” revealed Ometto. “Companies like Shell, Exxon-Mobil, Total, all of them have the greatest interest in acquiring this ethanol given the carbon sequestration it has.”

Raízen, A Global Producer in Sugar and Ethanol, Has Approval from Cade to Buy Biosev Plant for 3.6 Billion Reais and Additional Stock Amount
Raízen, the global giant in sugar and ethanol from sugarcane, has authorization from the Brazilian competition defense authority to acquire 9 Biosev plants, a transaction announced by the companies on 02/08, which will involve a payment of 3.6 billion reais and stocks.
According to Raízen, the purchase includes nine strategically located sugar and ethanol plants (six in the State of São Paulo, two in Mato Grosso do Sul, and one in Minas Gerais), representing an installed grinding capacity of up to 32 million tons of cane. The operation also includes cogeneration of energy, with an export capacity of up to 1.3 GWh of electricity/year, and an area of 280 thousand hectares of planted cane.
With the integration, Raízen, a joint venture of Cosan and Shell, will have a total of 35 ethanol-producing plants, totaling an installed grinding capacity of 105 million tons of cane and about 1.3 million hectares of crops, equivalent to 15% of the planted area in Brazil.
Positioned competitively in the market, with operational efficiency and financial discipline, the giant ethanol producer states that the operation strictly follows the principles of capital discipline and will not impact the company’s leverage, preserving its credit profile, which is currently rated as “investment grade” by the three largest global rating agencies.
