With Growth In The Biofuels Sector In The International Market, Raízen Is Now Focusing Its Attention On Investments For The Supply Of Ships And Airplanes Through New Ventures In This Segment Of Fuel Production
During an event hosted by Raízen last Wednesday, (05/25), the company’s vice president of trading, Paulo Neves, stated that the company’s new growth prospects are now focused on the biofuels market. The world is increasingly preparing for a decarbonization of transport, and with that, Raízen intends to invest in the production of these fuels for supplying ships and airplanes involved in these international trade operations.
Raízen’s New Focus For The Future Will Be The Biofuels Market For Supplying Ships And Airplanes For Decarbonization Of Transport
The international market is increasingly moving towards a scenario of sustainability and the adoption of decarbonization practices, especially in the transport sector, and companies are starting to prepare for this moment.
Thus, Raízen is now aiming for sustainable fuels, also known as biofuels, for the future of its production in the international market, focusing on the supply of ships and airplanes, the largest fleet of goods transport in the world.
-
While heat evaporates water from reservoirs and countries seek new areas for clean energy, Morocco is testing floating solar panels that function as an energy lid and also generate electricity.
-
Mato Grosso surprises Brazil by breaking a historical record and becoming the country’s largest biodiesel producer, transforming corn and soy into a billion-dollar energy powerhouse.
-
China occupies the desert with a 2 GW solar power plant in Inner Mongolia, installs elevated panels that create shade and humidity over the sand, and transforms a 2.96 billion kWh per year farm into an unexpected weapon against desertification.
-
Saudi Arabia is building in Oxagon a US$ 8.4 billion mega green hydrogen plant with 4 GW of solar and wind energy, 5.6 million solar panels, and capacity to produce 600 tons per day, transforming the desert into one of the planet’s largest clean fuel factories.
Raízen is a joint venture between Cosan and Shell and is actively seeking new ventures in the fuel sector in the international market. Thus, the company’s vice president of trading, Paulo Neves, commented on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and biofuels for ships (biobunker) and how the company intends to focus on this market in the coming years. Furthermore, the executive stated that “We are keeping an eye on new markets that appear as great additional potentials for ethanol in the world. Aviation fuel and biobunker. From the perspective of customers and demand, we have no difficulty in finding interested clients in this solution.”
Moreover, he emphasized that countries around the world are already preparing for a more sustainable future, and therefore various decarbonization policies are being implemented. With this scenario in countries in Europe, Asia, and North America — to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement — the demand for renewable products is already assured for the coming years. Now, what the company needs is to invest in the production of biofuels compatible with ships and airplanes so that new ventures can be established with international transport companies.
Demand For Biofuels For Airplanes And Ships Is Expected To Grow And The Company Is Preparing To Expand Production In Brazil, Argentina, And Paraguay
The search for biofuels in the international market is only expected to grow in the coming years with the discussion of sustainability in transport. This is because the International Air Transport Association (IATA) estimates a leap in global demand for SAF in the coming years, from 100 million liters in 2021 to 5 billion liters in 2025.
As a result, Raízen sees a highly favorable scenario for the development of new businesses in the airplane and ship segments. Furthermore, according to IATA, by 2050, more than 60% of aviation fuels should be renewable, while ships are expected to halve carbon emissions in the same period.
Thus, Raízen’s ventures focused on this production in Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay will be the major drivers of international market supply for the company in the coming years.
With that, Raízen Argentina’s CEO, Teófilo Lacroze, concluded by stating that when the company thinks of biofuels, the products produced in the country are the first step towards a future of expansion within this segment in the international aviation and shipping market.
