The new Renault 5 electric, also known as the Renault 5 EV or Renault 5 E-Tech electric, is ready for production and has had its design completely leaked. Patent images published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) show the urban electric car in all its retro-modern glory. It stays true to the concept car revealed in January 2021, and we can’t wait for this appealing electric vehicle to replace the Zoe.

The Renault 5 E-Tech: New Features And Details Revealed

The Renault 5 E-Tech reveals in new images its charging indicator light on the hood that was highlighted in the previous teaser. An interesting surprise is the presence of a charging port on the left and right front fenders, an unexpected feature in an affordable electric vehicle. This model maintains the retro-modern design of the concept, but with some subtle differences, such as the wheels that appear a bit smaller than expected.

Design Details And Features Of The Renault 5 E-Tech Electric

The production version of the R5 lost the light bar on the rear door to make way for a black trim piece. It features larger side mirrors and traditional door handles for the front doors, instead of the sleeker handles from the show car. The black roof and red details indicate that we are looking at a high-quality version of the electric vehicle. Additionally, the rear door handle is now larger and positioned on the C-pillar.

The third generation of the Renault 5 will be built on a dedicated platform called AmpR Small, which will have a multilink rear suspension, ensuring a more precise ride for this innovative model.

New Modules And Energy Efficiency

The Renault 5 E-Tech will utilize only four larger modules compared to the 12 smaller modules of the Zoe model, resulting in weight reduction and greater rigidity in the body structure. The adoption of a new electric motor, which will integrate the charger, power converter, and auxiliary power management unit, will eliminate an additional 20 kg. Furthermore, the batteries will benefit from a higher energy density compared to the Zoe, resulting in a more efficient vehicle.

Range And Price Of The Renault 5 E-Tech

The initial version will come with a 52 kWh battery and a capability for 400 km of range, according to WLTP. Later, a cheaper variant with a 40 kWh pack and a shorter range will be launched. Regarding the price, the expectation is that the Renault 5 E-Tech will be sold for around 25,000 euros, equivalent to R$ 132,000 in a direct conversion.

World Premiere Date

The highly anticipated world premiere of the Renault 5 E-Tech is scheduled for February 26 at the Geneva Motor Show 2024, promising to revolutionize the electric vehicle market.
