The Innovative Electric Motor From Yamaha Promises to Challenge Tesla’s Supremacy in the Automotive Market. Compact, but Extremely Powerful, This Motor Is Capable of Delivering Up to 350 kW of Power, Ideal for High-Performance Electric Vehicles, Including Hypercars.
For those who are not yet familiar with Yamaha’s journey, the company started its operations with the production of musical instruments and soon became a pioneer in motorcycle manufacturing, establishing its first factory outside Japan in Guarulhos in 1974. This facility marked a significant moment, becoming the first Yamaha factory dedicated to motorcycles outside Japanese territory. Although widely recognized for its motorcycles, Yamaha also has a rich history in projects related to four-wheeled vehicles. The latest of these initiatives is the development of a new electric motor, reaffirming the brand’s versatility and innovation in the automotive sector.
Yamaha Develops New Electric Motor That Promises to Surpass Tesla Cars
One of its most well-known achievements is the Lexus LFA with a 4.8-liter V10 engine that can reach 9,000 RPM, delivering 590 horsepower and emitting a sound similar to that of a Formula 1 car. Now the company is focusing on a new engine aimed at sustainability. The main feature of this new electric motor, which promises to leave Tesla cars behind, is its compact size and power.
According to Yamaha, since 2020 it has been accepting orders for the development of electric motor prototypes ranging from 35 to 40 kW for cars and other mobility applications; however, the company has also recently developed a unit with a power output of around 350 kW, an operational voltage of 800 Volts, intended for installation in super electric cars and other high-power applications.

The new electric motor from Yamaha is in intermediate development, and the final numbers are subject to change. The newly developed oil-cooled electric motor is super compact and treats mechanical and electrical components as a single piece, integrating the gearbox and inverter into one unit.
New Electric Motor Will Be Used by Subaru
According to Yamaha, the new electric motor that surpasses Tesla cars was developed anticipating the installation and use of multiple units in a single vehicle. The century-old manufacturer will leverage its production technology in the areas of casting, assembly, and machining, which give the company the flexibility to adapt to the demands of motorcycles and its other various projects, in order to develop motor prototypes and adapt to specific customer demands in a short period.
Yamaha is exploring the electric car market and will provide Hyper EV powertrains for Subaru. This cooperation between the Japanese companies is an effort to equip the STI Erra EV, so far a concept car, but which is expected to enter automotive production in the future.
With the carbon-neutral prototype, the vehicle takes a step forward in new technologies aimed at automotive engineering. Energy is stored in a 60 kWh lithium-ion battery, and in total there are an incredible 1,087 horsepower available.
New Motor for Tesla Cars Revealed by Elon Musk
Tesla does not want to be left behind and recently announced its Hairpin motor, something completely innovative with a more compact, lighter, and advanced design. One of the main characteristics of this new electric motor from Tesla is its filling factor, which can reach 0.7 compared to 0.4 found in traditional round wires. This means that Elon Musk’s motor offers better thermal performance and enables a fully automated production process.
The new motor design is revolutionary, as it is much more compact with a molded high-voltage connector and a data connector.
By removing the molded cover, it is possible to see this for oneself. Tesla optimized the layout of the new motor and improved the assembly of the cooler. A friction-welded piece was used to join them.
