U.S. Big Techs Lead the Digital Revolution, Surpassing the GDPs of Countries and Facing China in the Global Technological Race.

The so-called big techs from North America — Google, Amazon, Apple, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Tesla — reached a market value of US$ 18.25 trillion in July 2025, surpassing the Gross Domestic Product of several nations.

The group, nicknamed the Magnificent Seven in 2023, transformed the U.S. into the cradle of the digital revolution, redefining the path of the global economy.

But after all, how did these companies achieve such prominence and why is even China emerging as a rival on this board?

Education as the Foundation of the Digital Revolution

Experts point out that the strength of big techs has deep roots in education and investment in knowledge.

In the U.S., careers in science and engineering are widely encouraged, creating a fertile environment for innovation.

Lucas Abreu, founder of the Sunday Drops podcast, emphasizes that Brazil still faces a “less fertile ground” for technology entrepreneurs.

José Ronaldo de Castro Souza Júnior, chief economist at Leme Consultores, notes that the advancement of American universities in disruptive technologies was essential to consolidating leadership in the sector.

Venture Capital: The Financial Engine of Big Techs

Another decisive factor was venture capital. This investment modality, strong in the U.S. since the 1940s, connects innovative ideas to financial resources, even under a high risk of loss.

According to Diego Bonaldo, a professor at FIA Business School, the European Union has made progress in venture capital, but it is still far from the North American market.

In the U.S., the willingness to take risks and the volume of investments created ideal conditions for big techs to thrive.

The Challenge from China and the Race for Technology

While the U.S. maintains its lead in the digital revolution, China emerges as a significant competitor.

The Asian country has not only surpassed Tesla in electric vehicle sales, with BYD recording US$ 107 billion in revenues in 2024, but is also making strong advances in artificial intelligence.

Startup DeepSeek is an example of this movement, developing innovative processors that compete with North American solutions.

For economist José Ronaldo, disruptive innovations are increasingly concentrating between the U.S. and China, leaving Europe behind.

Regulation and Global Economic Impact

The growth of big techs reignites debates about regulation. While companies offer free digital services, experts warn of the monetization logic based on user data.

“When the products are free, I am the product, because nowadays every minute of our day is being sold on the market,” says Lucas Abreu.

The financial impact of these companies is impressive. Between December 2024 and July 2025, the Magnificent Seven grew by US$ 2.06 trillion in market value.

By comparison, the total of all companies listed on B3 increased by only US$ 156 billion over the same period.

Power Beyond Governments

The size of these companies goes beyond the economy. For investor Lucas Abreu, “these companies today are more important than other countries. The people there have greater influence than the presidents of various countries.”

Thus, big techs solidify themselves not only as symbols of technology but also as political, economic, and social forces that shape the present and future of humanity.
