Continuous Growth in the Fluminense Industry
The industry in the State of Rio de Janeiro maintains an impressive sequence of job creation, recording growth for the tenth consecutive month. In October, the fluminense industrial sector added 1,761 new jobs, encompassing both extractive and manufacturing industries. According to Sérgio Duarte, president of Rio Indústria, the year 2023 witnessed the creation of 13,576 industrial jobs in the state, accompanied by a 4.4% increase in industrial production up to September. These data, released by the Ministry of Labor and Employment through CAGED, were analyzed by economic consultant William Figueiredo from Future Tank, in partnership with the Associação Rio Indústria.
Significant Progress in Manufacturing Industries
In the Manufacturing Industries segment, October was a successful month with the creation of 1,491 jobs, spread across 24 manufacturing activities. This result represents the fourth consecutive month of positive growth, surpassing by 28% the balance recorded in the same period last year. By October, the Manufacturing Industries in the state generated a total of 9,620 jobs, positioning Rio de Janeiro in seventh place in job creation in Brazil, within the Southeast region. The state surpassed Espírito Santo, which created 5,576 vacancies, reflecting modest growth in manufacturing industrial production.
Fluminense Manufacturing: Sectors on the Rise
Among the manufacturing activities in Rio de Janeiro, 16 sectors recorded job openings throughout the year. The maintenance, repair, and installation of machinery and equipment sectors had an impressive positive balance of 4,330 vacancies. Other notable segments include the manufacturing of metal products (+1,646), food products (+1,487), and fuels (+1,188). However, some sectors such as the manufacturing of construction materials, automobile and body manufacturing, and manufacturing of computer equipment and electronic products recorded negative balances.

In the Extractive Industries sector, October saw the opening of 270 new job vacancies, marking the 34th consecutive month of positive results, with the last negative balance recorded in December 2020. By October, the Extractive Industries sector generated a total of 3,956 jobs in the state, highlighting the oil and gas sector. Rio de Janeiro leads job creation in the extractive industry across the country, driven by an 8.4% increase in industrial production up to September.
