Petrobras and Longtime Partner Fugro Seal Four New Contracts Promising to Expand Innovation in Subsea Operations in Brazil with Cutting-Edge Technology.
Petrobras, the Brazilian oil and gas giant, has deepened its strategic alliance with Dutch specialist Fugro. The partnership has been sealed with four multi-year contracts that collectively amount to an impressive value of approximately US$ 340 million. The main focus of this investment is the inspection and monitoring of critical subsea infrastructure in Brazil.
After a competitive bidding process, Fugro was selected by Petrobras for one of the largest contract packages in the industry. These agreements, based on daily rates, represent the continuation and expansion of a decades-long collaboration.
Operation Details and Dedicated Fleet
For the execution of the services, four dedicated vessels will be mobilized. Two are directly operated by Fugro, and the other two are from partner companies, all equipped with the most advanced technology of Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) from the Dutch company.

The timeline for the start of operations is set for the fourth quarter of 2025. The contracts will have an initial duration of four years, with the possibility of being extended for an additional year. It is important to note that, of the four agreements, three replace existing contracts that expire at the end of this year, ensuring continuity with improved terms and conditions, while one contract is entirely new, signaling growth in demand from Petrobras.
Innovation and Vision for the Future
Innovation is a central pillar of this new phase. The agreements foresee a significant expansion of remote operations capabilities, with an emphasis on remote piloting of ROVs. This is a pioneering technique that Fugro, in collaboration with Petrobras, implemented for the first time in Brazil in 2023.
Céline Gerson, Director of the Fugro Group in the Americas, commented on the strategic value of the alliance: “These new contracts with Petrobras demonstrate the profound value of our long-standing partnership.” According to her, the choice for this crucial work reinforces both companies’ commitment to “ensuring a responsible and resilient energy future in the region.”
The financial impact of the agreement is so significant that the project has already been included in Fugro’s 12-month backlog as of March 2025.
