According to the government of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, through the Secretariat of Environment, Development, Science, Technology and Innovation (Semadesc), the forestry sector is one of the pillars of this economic progress.
Data from the Agribusiness Geographic Information System (SIGA-MS) reveal that the forestry production chain generates more than 14,9 thousand direct jobs and another 12 thousand indirect jobs.

Another outstanding project is the Sucuriú Project, by the company Arauco, in Inocência, which promises to generate around 14 thousand jobs at the peak of its construction.
According to Esaú Rodrigues de Aguiar Neto, executive secretary of professional qualification and work at Semadesc, the state is experiencing a unique moment:

It is directly reflected in the lives of people like the young man from Piauí, Eduardo de Castro Nunes, who found in Mato Grosso do Sul the chance to rewrite his story.
Born in Teresina, Piauí, and raised in Matões, Maranhão, Eduardo arrived in the state in early 2024, in search of better living conditions.
Today, at 20 years old, Eduardo works as a tractor operator in forest cultivation in the region known as Vale da Celulose, in Ribas do Rio Pardo.
He started out as a forestry helper, but quickly rose to prominence.
“I was born into a very difficult reality, with no prospects. Here, I found an opportunity for growth. It is gratifying to see how my life has changed,” shares Eduardo.
And progress did not stop in the professional field. Eduardo also found love in Mato Grosso do Sul.
He is in a relationship with Lauriana Souza Pereira, a 26-year-old Tourism student from Corumbá. Together, they experience a rich cultural exchange and plan a promising future.
Education and qualification as pillars
According to the government of Mato Grosso do Sul, investment in training is one of the state's distinguishing features.
Since the beginning of the current administration, more than 270 thousand places on qualification courses have been offered, with the promise of increasing this number even further in 2025.
Lauriana is a clear example of the impact of this strategy. A student at State University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UEMS), she got a scholarship that helps her stay in Campo Grande.
Inspired by the cultural festivities of her hometown, such as Banho de São João and Carnival, she chose the Tourism course and already works in the events sector.
“Corumbá has an immense cultural wealth. Events like the South America Festival show the potential that tourism has to transform lives,” explains Lauriana.
Culture and quality of life in Mato Grosso do Sul
The cultural diversity of Mato Grosso do Sul is another factor that attracts workers and students from other regions.
The state combines Pantanal traditions, influences from the Bolivian border and a vibrant regional festival scene. According to Marina Dobashi, CEO of the Labor Foundation (Funtrab):
