About SBT, Grupo Silvio Santos – One of the Largest Television Networks in Brazil
The Grupo SBT and the Brazilian Television System remain one of the largest media conglomerates in the country. Officially founded on August 19, 1981, SBT was created by businessman and communicator Silvio Santos and today is a central part of the Grupo Silvio Santos.
The network has an extensive retransmission network that includes owned and affiliated stations throughout Brazil, reaching over 195 million viewers and 71 million households, with about 117 stations and a corporate structure focused on entertainment, journalism, and innovation, as well as internship programs, technical training, and career development spaces.

The presenter, businessman, and founder of SBT, Silvio Santos (Senor Abravanel), passed away on August 17, 2024 in São Paulo, at the age of 93, after a case of bronchopneumonia that developed from an infection by the influenza A virus (H1N1) while hospitalized at the Albert Einstein Hospital.
His death was confirmed by the hospital and widely reported by the Brazilian and international press, and he left a lasting legacy in television and popular culture in Brazil—being remembered as one of the most influential communicators in the history of national media.
