With the Lack of Qualified Labor to Operate Thermoelectric Plants, SENAI Decided to Open 25 Places in Free Courses to Train Power Plant Operators in SC
Right on the first day of February, last Tuesday, SENAI announced that it is developing a course aimed at the qualification of thermoelectric plant operators in its facilities. The free courses are being developed at the SENAI unit in Capivari de Baixo, a municipality in SC, where the only thermoelectric plant in the state is located.

The SENAI network decided to respond to a plea from Diamante Geração de Energia, the new owner of the Jorge Lacerda Thermoelectric Plant in Capivari de Baixo, which narrowly avoided shutting down its operations.
Despite this, the situation turned around after a major mobilization that resulted in the approval of Law 14.300/22, which was sanctioned by the President of the Republic on January 5 of this year. But for thermoelectric plants across the country to operate efficiently again, especially the Capivari de Baixo plant, which was unable to function due to a lack of employees, it was necessary to find a solution to the problem of the shortage of qualified labor.

Thus, the new owner of the Jorge Lacerda Thermoelectric Plant in Capivari de Baixo had to turn to SENAI for it to develop a professional qualification program aimed at training thermoelectric plant operators.
Free Course for Thermoelectric Plant Operator at SENAI
SENAI then developed the free Operator of Power Plant course, the only one in the state of Santa Catarina. Registration, which opened last Tuesday, February 1, will remain open until the 11th of this month.
Those interested will have to go through a selection process. The course will initially have only 25 spots, intended for those over 18 who already have a technical degree in Electromechanics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanics, and/or Industrial Automation. The course will last for one year and the 700 hours of classes will be taught only in the evening, starting from March 1, with an expected completion in December. Access the registration form at this link.
The main intention of Diamante Geração de Energia and SENAI is to qualify and integrate a professional workforce within the Jorge Lacerda Thermoelectric Complex in Capivari de Baixo. The plant always needs qualified professionals to work at the unit. Part of the investment in the training of future plant operator professionals will be financed by Diamante Geração de Energia, as it is the main interested party and the current manager of the power plant in Santa Catarina.
Internship at the Plant
About 15 students will be selected throughout the course to have the opportunity to complete a paid internship within the plant’s premises during the last six months of the course, scheduled alongside the learning process.
All classes will occur at SENAI in Capivari de Baixo, and most subjects will be taught by the technicians and engineers of the Jorge Lacerda Thermoelectric Plant. Interested parties should fill out an electronic form available at this link.
