A recent announcement brought great news about a new increase in the minimum wage in 2024, much to the delight of many Brazilians. According to media reports, unanimously, the state deputies of the Executive in Rio Grande do Sul approved on Wednesday (20) the annual adjustment of the regional minimum wage, as provided in the Complementary Law Project at the Legislative Assembly.
It is worth mentioning that the proposal is pending sanctioning by Governor Jorginho Mello in the PL. According to the proposal, the minimum wage for workers in several sectors of the Santa Catarina economy will receive a 6% adjustment, retroactive to January 1 of this year.
During the plenary session, lawmakers highlighted the speed of Alesc in the deliberation and voting of the project, as well as the fact that for more than ten years, the adjustment percentage has been defined by consensus between employers and employees.

How Much Will the New Salary Increase 2024 Be?
Deputy Marcius Machado, also from the PL, emphasized the importance of the project for the new salary 2024, as well as the speed of the committees, and Napoleão Bernardes, from the PSD, informed that he proposed an amendment to the State Constitution to ensure that the processing of the adjustment in Alesc is swift.
According to Bernardes, a special procedure was proposed, which is already in practice, but would be guaranteed by the Constitution. In the first bracket, the new minimum wage will increase from R$ 1,521 to R$ 1,612. In the second, the amount will increase from R$ 1,576 to R$ 1,670, and finally, in the third bracket, from R$ 1,740 to R$ 1,844.40.
Which Workers Will Receive the New Minimum Wage?
In this case, the new salary 2024 will be paid to workers in the following industries:
- Buildings and residential, commercial, and similar condominiums, in tourism and hospitality;
- In cultural establishments;
- Graphic industries;
- In health establishments;
- Jewelry and precious stone cutting industries;
- In data processing;
- Glass, crystal, mirror, ceramic dishware, and porcelain industries;
- Rubber artifacts industries;
- Private insurance and capitalization companies and independent agents for private insurance and credit;
- Drivers in general transportation;
- Assistants in school administration (employees of educational establishments);
- Buildings and residential, commercial, and similar condominiums;
- Metal, mechanical, and electrical material industries.
The Brazilian minimum wage, an essential value for the survival of millions of people and a crucial measure of social economic stability, is a highlight in debates and analyses with the expectation of its increase in the coming years. According to experts like Sbardelotto from XP, projections indicate a substantial increase to R$ 1,418 in 2024 and R$ 1,507 in 2025.
Federal Government Is Committed to Increasing the Minimum Wage
Simone Tebet, Minister of Planning and Budget, revealed President Lula’s commitment to ensuring real increases in the new salary 2024 during his term. Tebet stated that the minimum wage increase is confirmed for next year, fulfilling one of Lula’s main promises.
For 2024, the expectation is for a considerable increase, going from R$ 1,320 to R$ 1,412, an increase of 6.97%. This amount reflects a 3.85% increase in the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) until November of last year, and an economic growth of about 3% in 2022.
In summary, the daily minimum will be R$ 47.07, and hourly it will reach R$ 6.42. For the coming years, the forecasts are also optimistic, with an estimated minimum wage for 2025 between R$ 1,435 and R$ 1,500, and for 2026 around R$ 1,614.
