Midsize SUV From Chevrolet Returns to the Used Market With Powerful Engine, Good Safety Package, and Family Size, Catching Attention for Cost-Benefit Compared to Newer Compact Models and for the Rare Combination of Performance, Internal Space, and Equipment.

The Chevrolet Equinox with a 2.0 turbo engine, sold in Brazil since the end of 2017, is back on the radar of those looking for a Used SUV With High Performance and Good Level of Equipment.

In market surveys based on the Fipe Table, versions of the initial phase Equinox 2.0 turbo appear with prices below R$ 115 thousand, a level that places it in the same range as newer compact models, but with a different proposal in size and mechanics.

On the other hand, this return happens even though the Equinox was not one of the most recalled midsize SUVs at the time of its launch.

The result, today, is a car that tends to catch attention in the used market precisely because it delivers a rather uncommon package in this price range: more powerful engine, list of driving assists, and midsize SUV dimensions.

2.0 Turbo Engine and Above-Average Performance in the Segment

Under the hood, the Equinox 2.0 turbo uses a gasoline four-cylinder engine with 262 hp and torque around 37 kgfm, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and, in the more complete configurations, all-wheel drive.

Specialized publications highlight that this 2.0 turbo belongs to the same family and has been applied in entry-level versions of the Camaro in the United States, although tuned for daily use and the SUV profile.

In practice, this means that the Equinox 2.0 turbo differs from what has become standard in more affordable SUVs, which generally adopt smaller, turbo engines with a focus on efficiency.

Still, it is important to separate the concept of equivalence: the fact that it shares a mechanical foundation does not turn the SUV into a sports model, but explains why it stands out among used vehicles when the topic is force and system responses.

Internal Space and Trunk Reinforce Family Profile

The Equinox sold in the generation launched in 2017 positions itself as a Midsize SUV Also in Its Measurements.

The wheelbase of 2.72 meters and the trunk of 468 liters help to understand why the model appears as an alternative for families or for those who travel frequently.

Meanwhile, the cabin benefits from the wheelbase to better accommodate occupants, especially in the second row.

The proposal becomes evident when comparing the internal space of a midsize SUV with that of compact utilities, which tend to prioritize smaller external dimensions and urban use.

Additionally, the trunk volume, by itself, does not tell the whole story.

The compartment shape and the possibility of folding the seats enhance versatility for those needing space for a stroller, large luggage, or work and leisure equipment.

Active and Passive Safety Help to Explain the Good Reputation

Among the points that sustain the current interest in the Equinox 2.0 turbo is the set of active and passive safety, more common in higher-category cars when the model arrived in the country.

In top-of-the-line versions, features such as blind-spot alert, collision alert with automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assistants appear, in addition to stability and traction control.

In terms of protection, the Equinox from this period is noted for having six airbags, a setup that has become more widespread over the years, but still makes a difference when compared to used models from lower segments.

This type of list also tends to influence prices in the used market.

When consumers factor in driving assistance items, it is common to notice that some newer and cheaper SUVs may require more expensive versions to reach a similar level of equipment.

Premier Version Gathers Technology and Comfort

The Premier version concentrates the most complete package of the Equinox 2.0 turbo that marked the initial phase of the model in Brazil.

The set includes a multimedia center with smartphone integration, wireless charging in some configurations, and panoramic sunroof, in addition to items that enhance practicality for daily use, such as rain and light sensors.

Solutions like electronic parking brake also appear, a feature that helps in maneuvers and on inclines when combined with specific assists.

In a used car, the presence of these features tends to weigh heavily in the purchasing decision, especially for those seeking convenience without moving to premium models.

Even so, in any evaluation of a used car, the condition and previous maintenance are decisive.

Electronic systems and comfort items can vary significantly in operation depending on the owner’s care and maintenance history.

Comparing With New Compact SUVs Helps to Understand the Appeal

The cost-benefit analysis often arises when the Equinox 2.0 turbo is placed side by side with Brand New Compact SUVs.

In the 2025 lineup, for example, the Chevrolet Tracker starts at R$ 119,900 in the price table released by the brand, with a 1.0 turbo engine in entry-level versions and a price increase according to the configuration.

In this scenario, a 2.0 turbo Equinox with a reference value below R$ 115 thousand, according to databases that compile the Fipe Table, enters as an alternative for those prioritizing size, performance, and equipment list instead of a newer car.

The comparison is not direct because the segments are different, but it helps to explain why the model is back in conversations when the topic is buying used with a “premium” look.

However, the calculation needs to consider typical usage costs of a more powerful midsize SUV, such as fuel consumption, tires, and potential repairs.

The difference in proposal is precisely what makes the Equinox appealing to a specific audience.

Those who accept a larger and more powerful car, as long as the entry price for used ones is close to that of compacts, often see value in this set.
