Through the Technology Commercialization Contract, TechnipFMC Will Use and Integrate the Licensed Membrane Technology from Petronas as Part of Its Production Portfolio in Projects

The offshore energy service provider TechnipFMC and Petronas Technology Ventures, a subsidiary of Petronas, have signed an agreement to commercialize a unique membrane for natural gas processing that reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Through the Technology Commercialization Contract, TechnipFMC will use and integrate the licensed membrane technology from Petronas as part of its production portfolio in projects worldwide, outside of China.

As explained by both companies last Thursday, the technology that removes carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide using wetted membranes is 30% more efficient than existing gas treatment processes and can significantly reduce GHG emissions. They emphasized that the membrane has potential applications in offshore and onshore hydrocarbon production environments.

Luana Duffé, Executive Vice President, New Energy Ventures at TechnipFMC, commented: “Our ability to industrialize processes is at the heart of this partnership, which is another important step in TechnipFMC’s efforts to help our clients reduce their carbon footprint upstream.”

Bacho Pilong, Senior Vice President of Project Delivery and Technology at Petronas, stated: “We are excited to bring this innovation to life that will effectively reduce GHG emissions, alongside TechnipFMC as our strategic commercialization partner. We believe that this collaboration will inspire more innovative solutions for cleaner and more sustainable energy for a better tomorrow.”

This week, TechnipFMC also partnered with another company, Scottish Orbital Marine Power, to accelerate the global commercialization of tidal energy technology. With the partnership, TechnipFMC will become a shareholder in the tidal energy business based in Scotland.

Ministry of Economy Reduces Import Tax on Solar Panels and Encourages Renewable Energy Acquisition

The Ministry of Economy has reduced the import tax rates on some components related to energy generation. The aim is to foster the diversification of the Brazilian energy matrix through renewable energy sources, as well as to offer a reduction in the cost of energy generation and sale. Among the taxes reduced are those on solar panels, DC converters, lithium batteries, and parts of nuclear reactors. The decision of the Ministry of Economy was finalized this Wednesday (18).
