According to Anatel data, about 70 devices support the new 5G technology
5G became available this Friday, September 29, in the regions of Belo Horizonte, João Pessoa, and Porto Alegre. This new technology ensures improved speed and also promises less delay in response times with low latency, according to Anatel data.
To access the new technology, residents must have a 5G-compatible device, according to CNN Brasil’s website.
Regions That Already Have 5G
The federal capital Brasília was the first city in Brazil to receive 5G technology on July 6, 2022. According to Anatel, approximately 391 municipalities still do not have the new technology, which is equivalent to 7% of the cities in the country.

Lionfish have been invading the Brazilian coast since 2020, advancing through reefs, mangroves, and protected areas, carrying potent venom in their spines and threatening to turn a silent Indo-Pacific invasion into an ecological crisis on Brazil’s coastline.
Despite this, Anatel’s plan is to provide the technology to all capitals in the country by September 29. For municipalities with a population of 500,000 or more, the technology is expected to arrive starting January 1, 2023.
At the beginning of July, the Ministries of Communications and Anatel declared that the city of São Paulo would also receive 5G alongside the other capitals. However, this will not happen just yet, according to Anatel Councilor and president of the group responsible for monitoring the implementation of 5G technology in Brazil, Moisés Moreira. The councilor also stated that urban areas are expected to have access to 5G technology by January 2026.
An Accenture report shows that the implementation of 5G in countries that auctioned before Brazil had positive economic impacts, with new opportunities for products, services, and business models.
Devices Compatible with the Technology
So far, according to Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency) data, around 70 models support 5G.
If a smartphone owner wants to ensure access to 5G is possible, experts recommend contacting the carrier. Another option is to inspect the certification code stamped on the chassis or in the device’s manual.
So far, only products certified by Anatel can use 5G and the distribution of the technology also depends on the carriers, with not all neighborhoods having access to 5G. Therefore, even if a person has a compatible device, they may not be able to connect.
According to Anatel, “each carrier has its strategy for deploying and expanding the network, so it is common for not all carriers to serve all neighborhoods and regions.”
Anatel also recommends that people contact their phone service providers to check if a certain area will have the network available.
Anatel May Distribute Antennas to Low-Income Families If 5G Interferes with the Signal of Their Parabolic Antennas
According to Gaispi (Monitoring Group for the Implementation of Solutions for Interference Problems), some preliminary tests were conducted in the three capitals to identify and establish the potential for 5G signals to affect the reception of residential parabolic antennas or even professional systems, such as satellite signals.
To solve possible interferences, Anatel created a program to distribute, free of charge, to low-income families in the capitals of Brazil, registered in the Single Registry and using parabolic antennas of the so-called C Band, kits containing new digital antennas, converters, and cables.
