Contract Closed With Petrobras Is Four Years And Involves More Than 100 Thousand Tons
Of Pipes With And Without Welding
Petrobras has closed a four-year contract with Tenaris for the supply of a complete package of products and services for its large deepwater project. Located in the Santos Basin, in the Pre-salt, the Búzios field is the largest in terms of oil and gas volume in deepwater in the world. The forecasted production is 2 million barrels per day by 2030, well above the current 700 thousand barrels daily. This is equivalent to 70% of the total production in the country today.
The contract volume involves more than 100 thousand tons of pipes with and without welding, in carbon steel grades for corrosive environments and high collapse. In order to meet Petrobras’ technical specifications, Tenaris offered the TenarisHydril BlueDock® welded connectors and TenarisHydril Blue® Heavy Wall, Blue® Max, and Wedge 623® premium connections with Dopeless® technology, which brings HSE benefits by eliminating the use of grease and contamination to the environment, also providing greater safety and practicality to operations.
“The pre-salt is one of the most challenging exploration and production environments in the world. We are committed to generating value for Petrobras, and we are honored that the company has entrusted us with such an ambitious project, which reinforces the long-standing partnership between Petrobras and Tenaris in Brazil,” said Renato Catallini, President of Tenaris in Brazil. He added, “This is one of the most robust packages for complex offshore operations in the market, especially in terms of HSE.”

Braskem’s new generation tankers will cross over 5,500 nautical miles between the U.S. and Brazil, reduce CO₂ emissions by 30%, and transport naphtha with modern engines, an optimized hull, and a focus on at-sea efficiency on a strategic route.
The main operators in the energy sector, including Petrobras, have validated the fatigue performance of the conduits with BlueDock® connectors. The surface coatings have been designed and tested according to Petrobras’ requirements and international standards such as ISO 13679 and API 5C5, in addition to meeting the high torque requirements for unscrewing the connections.
The BlueDock® connectors are now delivered with the new automatic anti-rotational key, Automatic Anti-Rotational Keys (AARK), designed to allow multiple automatic activations and hands-free in the red zone, without the need for special tools. Additionally, all products supplied meet the customer’s requirements for the use of slings and connector with load shoulder. The combination of these features increases safety on the platform and operational efficiency.
Tenaris will serve Petrobras with its Rig Direct® service model, delivering the pipes at the port, ready to be used on the offshore platform. As part of this service, Petrobras will use PipeTracer® technology, a digital solution that allows users to access the technical specifications of the products, including descent execution guidelines, in addition to creating a digital tally, thereby eliminating the need for manual length measurement, which increases accuracy and simplifies operations. To support well integrity, field service specialists will accompany Petrobras operations on the platform.
The production of pipes will be carried out at Confab, Tenaris’s plant in Brazil, and at the Tamsa and Dalmine plants in Mexico and Italy, respectively.
