Tesla Announces Recall Of 46,000 Cybertrucks Due To Unexpected Issue: Panels May Come Loose While The Vehicle Is In Motion
Tesla is facing a new issue with the Cybertruck, its highly anticipated electric truck. A massive recall has been announced due to a defect in the outer panels, posing a risk to safety on U.S. roads.
The failure involves a fragile adhesive that may degrade over time, causing the panels to detach while the vehicle is in motion.
Recall Covers Nearly All Cybertrucks In Circulation
Tesla filed the recall with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Approximately 46,000 units produced between November 2023 and February 2025 are affected. This number represents the majority of Cybertrucks currently on the market.

The issue lies with the tilt rails, panels positioned above the side windows. Initially secured with adhesive, these components may come loose due to environmental wear. The first case was reported in February 2024 when a driver noted that one of the panels flew off during driving.
Safety Risk And Brand Impact
Since the first incident, 151 warranty claims have been filed. Despite the lack of reports of accidents or injuries, the situation raises concerns about the vehicle’s safety. Additionally, this is the eighth recall since the launch of the Cybertruck, increasing criticism regarding the quality of Tesla’s products.
The brand has faced similar issues in the past. In the summer of 2024, the company had to address a problem with the truck bed, where a trim piece could come loose and pose a danger on the road.
Solution Announced By Tesla
To address the issue, Tesla will replace the defective tilt rails at no cost to owners. The solution involves a more durable adhesive and a mechanical reinforcement. A pin will be welded to the stainless steel panel, ensuring attachment with a nut.
Cybertrucks manufactured from March 21 will feature this improvement. Vehicles still in Tesla’s possession will be adjusted before delivery to customers. The necessary parts will be distributed to service centers and stores on March 20, with customer notifications scheduled for May 19.
Reputation Damage And Customer Reaction
The Cybertruck was launched as a revolution in the pickup market, but recurring issues are shaking consumer confidence. On social media and forums, owners express frustration with the defects and successive recalls.
Tesla is facing a delicate phase, with growing criticism related to the quality of its products. The brand’s success depends on its ability to restore public confidence and maintain vehicle safety to high standards.
