Tesla Unveils Redwood Project, A More Affordable Electric Car Aimed At Competing With BYD, The World’s Leading Electric Vehicle Seller. The Project Is Expected To Be Completed By 2025.
Tesla lost its lead in electric car sales to BYD in the last quarter of 2023, but is preparing to turn around in this race. In response to last year’s results, Elon Musk, CEO of the company, announced the Redwood project, a more affordable electric car planned since 2020. Expected to be completed by 2025, Tesla plans to produce around 10,000 affordable electric cars per week starting June of this year, directly competing with BYD and expanding its operations to locations like Austin, Berlin, and possibly India. Thus, the company intends to regain its position in the electric vehicle market.

To face the competition and reclaim lost market share, Musk unveiled plans to launch a more affordable electric car, internally known as the Redwood project.
The initiative has been in development since 2020 and aims to offer an electric vehicle that meets a wider range of the population.
According to sources from Automotive News Europe, the Redwood project is scheduled to be completed by 2025.
The proposal is to launch an electric car that competes directly with BYD, with a price around US$ 25,000, ensuring more accessibility compared to the Model 3, currently Tesla’s most affordable model in the United States.
Tesla Is Already Preparing To Launch The Redwood Project In The Market To Compete With BYD
New reliable sources from the global market indicate that Tesla is already moving forward with the production of the Redwood project.
The company plans to manufacture around 10,000 affordable electric cars per week starting June 2025.
Operations are expected to begin at the Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, with the possibility of expanding to facilities in Berlin, Germany, and eventually India.
The goal is to enter markets that are already known for their good acceptance of electric models.
Currently, the Model 3 is Tesla’s most economical model, with versions available starting at US$ 38,990 in the United States.
Now, Musk’s strategy is clear: to compete directly with BYD by offering a more affordable vehicle for the American public.
In this way, the company is, more than ever, focused on market growth for 2024.
