Do you know which cars consume the least fuel in Brazil? The Inmetro, the agency responsible for metrology, quality, and technology in the country, published a list of the 10 most efficient economical cars (in the flex model) for 2024, according to PBEV, the Brazilian Vehicle Labeling Program.
How Does Inmetro Evaluate the Consumption of Vehicles in Brazil?
The PBEV evaluates the energy consumption of cars in MJ/km (megajoules per kilometer) and km/l (kilometers per liter), both in the city and on the road.
The lower the fuel consumption, the more economical and sustainable the vehicle is.

The medium sedan is Toyota’s flex car that leads the ranking, with the lowest energy consumption (1.21 MJ/km) and the highest fuel consumption in the city (12.8 km/l with ethanol and 18.5 km/l with gasoline).
The Toyota Corolla has a 1.8 engine with a flex hybrid system and CVT transmission, and received a B grade for energy efficiency.
2. Toyota Corolla Cross
The medium SUV from Toyota takes second place, with an energy consumption of 1.31 MJ/km and fuel consumption in the city of 11.8 km/l with ethanol and 17.8 km/l with gasoline.
The Toyota Corolla Cross is another car with a 1.8 engine with a flex hybrid system and CVT transmission, and received a B grade for energy efficiency.
3. Renault Kwid
The subcompact from Renault ranks third, with an energy consumption of 1.36 MJ/km and fuel consumption in the city of 10.8 km/l with ethanol and 15.3 km/l with gasoline.
The Renault Kwid has a 1.0 flex engine and a 5-speed manual transmission, and received a B grade for energy efficiency.
4. Chevrolet Onix Plus
The compact sedan from Chevrolet appears in fourth place, with an energy consumption of 1.42 MJ/km and fuel consumption in the city of 9.3 km/l with ethanol and 13.5 km/l with gasoline.
The Chevrolet Onix Plus has a 1.0 flex engine and a 6-speed manual transmission. This flex car received a B grade for energy efficiency.
5. Volkswagen Polo
The compact hatchback from Volkswagen ranks fifth, with an energy consumption of 1.45 MJ/km and fuel consumption in the city of 9.5 km/l with ethanol and 13.7 km/l with gasoline.
