Focusing on Porto Açu, the towers for wind energy production will be able to generate about 33.4GW of power in Macaé, a huge amount for the sector
News in the wind energy sector of Macaé: there are approximately 13 projects from different wind energy production proponents (Total, EDF, Neonergua, Equinor, Shell among others), with a predicted total energy generation of 33.4 GW of power, which is equivalent to about 2,000 wind turbines, between Macaé and Espírito Santo.
The wind turbine projects between Macaé and Espírito Santo are located within a radius of up to 150 km from the Port of Açu, in São João da Barra, situated in a region that stretches from the city of Macaé to the South of Espírito Santo, which reinforces Açu’s potential to serve all the wind energy towers. Regulatory definitions are in progress for the activities to advance, with the towers being located about 20 kilometers from the coast.

Turn lemons into lemonade! This is the “motto” of Brazil’s Northeast currently, by utilizing the wind and sun that so harshly affect the Sertão of Piauí and have now become one of the region’s greatest riches. This utilization became possible thanks to wind energy, which powers the turbines installed at Lagoa dos Ventos: the largest wind farm in South America, built by Enel Green Power Brazil.

Enel Brazil, the leading Italian company in the sector, has already built 302 wind towers in Lagoa dos Ventos, located in the municipality of Dom Inocêncio (PI), and is now undertaking the second expansion of the complex, with investments of approximately R$ 2.5 billion in the project and a forecast to commence between late 2023 and early 2024.
“The first expansion of the Lagoa dos Ventos wind complex, started in 2020, is already partially operational, and it is expected to be 100% completed by the end of the year. Today, the wind generation complex produces about 1 GW, and when the expansion is finished, the installed capacity will exceed 1.5 GW,” explains Nicola Cotugno, CEO of Enel Brazil.
