With This Recent Discovery of Hydrocarbons in the Santos Basin, TotalEnergies Continues to Demonstrate Its Commitment to Exploring Brazil’s Pre-Salt.
The French energy giant, TotalEnergies, continues its successful quest for resources in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin, with the confirmation of its second hydrocarbon discovery in the region. According to information from Petronotícias, the company notified the National Agency of Petroleum (ANP) about the identification of signs of natural gas in well 1-TOT-3-RJS, located in block C-M-541, which is at a depth of 3,022 meters below sea level.

This discovery marks another significant step for TotalEnergies, which had already found oil and gas in 2022, during drilling operations in well 1-TOT-2-RJS, also known as Marolo-1, at a depth of 3,000 meters in the same area.
Exploration work in the Santos Basin is being conducted using the drillship Valaris Renaissance, which plays a key role in the search and identification of resources in the region.

TotalEnergies has the authorization to drill up to two exploratory wells, named Marolo and Ubaia, in addition to three contingent wells, all in block C-M-541.
This block was acquired by TotalEnergies during the 16th Bidding Round held by the ANP in 2019.
It drew attention for being the asset with the highest signing bonus in the auction, amounting to R$ 4.029 billion.
TotalEnergies acts as the operator of the area, holding a 40% stake, in partnership with Qatar Petroleum (40%) and Petronas (20%).
Currently, C-M-541 is the only exploratory asset of the French company in Brazil, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to exploring resources in the country and seeking opportunities in the promising pre-salt of the Santos Basin.
