Toyota Surprises The Brazilian Automotive Market With The Registration Of The Mini Hilux, Promising To Arrive Simple And Cheap To Shake Up Sales Of Rivals Toro And Montana
The Toyota Hilux, the best-selling mid-size pickup in Brazil, has an initial price of R$ 219,090 for the chassis version, dedicated to work. However, the Japanese giant plans to introduce an even simpler and cheaper version of the truck in the Brazilian market, called Hilux Champ. Nicknamed mini Hilux, the new pickup is expected to arrive at R$ 100,000 to annihilate the Fiat Toro and Chevrolet Montana.
Finally, Toyota registered the Hilux Champ with the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) last week, revealing not only small details but also internal parts and the truck’s bumper. This indicates that the mini Hilux may be in the manufacturer’s plans for Brazil.

If this materializes, it is likely that production of the truck will begin in Zárate, Argentina, where Toyota already manufactures the Hilux and Hiace, the brand’s van. Both vehicles use the same platform as the Hilux Champ.
