Toyota Surprises The Automotive Market With The Launch Of The Mini Hilux, Set To Arrive In 2024 For Less Than R$ 50 Thousand, And Promises To Shake Up Rival Sales
Toyota is making a big entrance with the launch of its new pickup, which is expected to hit the automotive market costing less than R$ 50 thousand (about 10 thousand dollars)! It’s no secret that Toyota is developing a more compact utility vehicle than the Hilux, its market-leading pickup globally. There are speculations about a pickup derived from the Corolla Cross; however, the big innovation currently is the IMV0 project, a utility vehicle that incorporates the design of the Bandeirante and is notable for its versatility.
More detail-oriented observers will note that this is not the first appearance of the IMV0. In demonstrations in Indonesia, where it was named “Rangga,” Toyota showcased the vehicle’s capabilities. Still in the conceptual stage, the pickup has the potential to be adapted for various configurations, such as a food truck, cargo platform, or even as a mobile fast-charging unit for electric vehicles. The concept of the IMV0 aims to offer simplicity and practicality to its users.

However, models like the Iveco Daily and Volkswagen Delivery, which have wider cabins similar to small trucks, could also be considered rivals.
Mini Hilux Promises To Shake Up Rivals By Arriving In The Market For Less Than R$ 50 Thousand (About 10 Thousand Dollars)
According to Motortrend, the final version of the IMV0 is expected to be launched only in 2025 and could be sold in some Asian markets for around 10 thousand dollars (approximately R$ 48,635 at the current exchange rate), possibly without including some safety items, such as airbags and ABS brakes, which are not mandatory in certain countries but are required in Brazil.

Sale Of The Mini Hilux In Brazil
In the case of the Brazilian market, the model can only be sold with a diesel engine if it has a payload capacity of over one ton in the bed, a quite likely possibility.
The sale of the IMV0 in Brazil would also significantly depend on local production, considering that high import taxes could make the vehicle too expensive. A possible solution would be manufacturing at the Argentine plant in Zárate, which is already preparing to assemble the Hiace minivan in CKD mode, with parts arriving in completely disassembled kits to be assembled locally.
As for the potential success of the IMV0 in Brazil, adopting the name Bandeirante could be an appealing marketing strategy, evoking a robust and reliable legacy. However, it is essential to consider the price competition in the market.
