New Toyota Van Arrives in Brazil Equipped with Hilux Engine, Automatic Transmission, and Space for 16 Passengers, Promising Free Maintenance and Extended Warranty to Compete with Fiat Ducato.

The Toyota officially announced on Monday (1st) the arrival of the Hiace in Brazil, expanding its presence in the van segment.

The announcement was revealed in a report by Motor1, which highlighted the debut of the Minibus AT DX 15+1 seats with a suggested price of R$ 364.990.

The model uses the 2.8 turbo diesel engine from the Hilux, coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission, and has a consumption approved by Inmetro of 8.5 km/l in the city and 9.8 km/l on the highway.

The after-sales package includes the Toyota 10 program, which can extend the warranty to up to 10 years, in addition to free maintenance for the first three services.

Competitive Price Against Fiat Ducato

According to a survey by Motor1, the Hiace arrives to compete with the Fiat Ducato in passenger transport.

While the Toyota novelty costs R$ 364.990, the Ducato Minibus 2026 starts at R$ 375.990 in the Comfort version and reaches R$ 384.990 in the Luxury configuration, also with capacity for 15+1 seats.

The strategy of the Japanese manufacturer is to offer a competitive price combined with robust mechanics and a predictable maintenance plan to attract fleet operators.

Engine and Transmission Inherited from Hilux

The mechanical set replicates that of the Hilux pickup: 2.8 turbo diesel engine with 174 hp at 3,400 rpm and 45.8 kgfm of torque at 1,600 rpm, with six-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive.

The front suspension is McPherson and the rear suspends uses leaf springs, while the disc brakes are present on all wheels.

Dimensions and Capacity

With 2.28 m in height, the Hiace was designed for circulation in conventional garages.

The model measures 5,915 mm in length, 1,950 mm in width (without mirrors) and 3,860 mm in wheelbase, offering good internal capacity.

It weighs 2,640 kg in running order and carries 1,180 kg of payload, reaching a GVW of 3,820 kg.

Interior for 16 Passengers

The cabin has been designed for 16 occupants, featuring reclining seats, individual air outlets in the ceiling, grab handles, and a foldable last row to increase luggage space.

The dashboard incorporates a 9″ multimedia center, an instrument panel with TFT screen, and a multifunction console that can be used as a support when the center seat is folded down.

Standard Safety Features

The van comes equipped with three airbags — including one for the driver’s knee — as well as three-point seatbelts for all passengers.

It also features traction and stability controls, hill start assist, rearview camera, and parking sensors.

The body adopts programmed deformation zones for impact absorption.

After-Sales and Scheduled Maintenance

Toyota bets on cost predictability.

The first three maintenance services are free, and from the 4th to the 6th, the cost is fixed at R$ 1,199 each.

The network of dealerships has been adapted to accommodate the new product, promising 97% of parts available immediately.

The Toyota 10 program extends coverage up to 10 years, with a limit of 200,000 km for private use and 150,000 km for commercial use.

Promotions and Acquisition Options

According to Motor1, those who finance the model through Toyota Bank by October 31, 2025 will also have the 4th, 5th, and 6th maintenance services free, totaling up to six services at no cost.

Additionally, the brand plans to offer the Hiace through the Kinto rental service, with contracts of 12, 24, or 36 months, including insurance, maintenance, and documentation.

New Versions in 2025 and 2026

The lineup will expand in November 2025 with Van and Refrigerated/Isolated variants.

The Ambulance version, which requires additional certifications, is scheduled for early 2026.

Produced in Zárate, Argentina, the van arrives in Brazil imported from the same plant that supplies the region with the Hilux and SW4.

Strategy Against the Competition

Among the advantages of the Hiace are the reliable mechanical set, rear-wheel drive, height compatible with urban use, and a structured after-sales program to reduce cost per kilometer.

Against the Fiat Ducato, Toyota bets on a lower starting price, affordable scheduled maintenance, and extended warranty to attract passenger transport operators.

For those looking for a microbus with 16 seats, what weighs more: purchase price, maintenance cost, service network, or internal comfort?
