New GR LH2 Combines Hydrogen Engine and Hybrid System, with Aggressive Look and Dimensions Larger than the GR010, Aiming High at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Toyota surprised with the presentation of the GR LH2 Racing Concept. The new hydrogen-powered hypercar represents a bold step by the Japanese automaker in its strategy for a carbon-neutral future.
Developed by the Toyota Gazoo Racing division, the vehicle bets on hydrogen combustion as a viable alternative for motorsport and, in the future, for the streets.
Futuristic Design and Focus on Performance
The GR LH2 Racing Concept was unveiled at the traditional Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans, featuring aggressive and refined lines.

The Brazilian Jeep Avenger will feature a gear lever, ambient lighting, and leather trim on the doors, and it will arrive in 2026 to compete with the Volkswagen Tera, Renault Kardian, and Fiat Pulse.

Renault Kwid bids farewell to Brazil: the model that was once the cheapest in the country lost ground after selling only 217 units in 2026, is removed from the brand’s website, and ends the trajectory of Renault’s electric compact in the Brazilian market.
Although it retains some features from the GR H2 Concept presented the previous year, the new model brings significant updates.
The LED headlights are smaller, the side air intakes have been redesigned, and the rear wing has been elevated. The fin is also more pronounced, giving the car a bold and functional look.
The aerodynamic set reinforces the focus on performance and visual impact. The body follows the style of the GR010 Hybrid, a model recognized by Toyota in endurance racing.
In dimensions, the GR LH2 measures 5,100 mm in length and 2,050 mm in width, slightly exceeding its direct predecessor. The adjustments demonstrate that Toyota is treating the project with seriousness and competitive focus.
Hydrogen Technology with Hybrid System
Toyota confirmed that the GR LH2 uses a hybrid powertrain with a hydrogen-powered engine.
However, the automaker has not yet revealed the complete technical details. The expectation is that the new car shares part of the structure with the GR010 Hybrid, which features a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine combined with a front electric motor.
This architecture has shown good results in endurance racing.
By adapting it for hydrogen combustion, Toyota seeks to combine performance with environmental innovation. The goal is not only to win races but also to push the boundaries of technology in extreme scenarios.
Part of Toyota’s “Multidirectional” Strategy
The GR LH2 integrates Toyota’s “multidirectional” strategy to reduce carbon emissions.
The automaker believes that the future of mobility involves multiple solutions, including battery electric vehicles (BEVs), hybrids, engines powered by carbon-neutral fuels, and hydrogen technologies.
In addition to the GR LH2, Toyota has been testing cars like the hydrogen-powered GR Corolla in other endurance races.
These tests are not just technological demonstrations but also important steps to validate the use of hydrogen in real-world contexts. The idea is to accelerate the development of technology before bringing it to large-scale commercial use.
Focus Beyond the Tracks: Infrastructure and Partnership
Outside the competition world, Toyota is also investing in the development of fuel cell vehicles (FCEVs), such as the Mirai and the Crown Sedan.
However, for hydrogen to become a genuinely accessible alternative to the public, it is necessary to advance infrastructure.
For this reason, the automaker is forming partnerships with companies and governments to expand the production, transport, and distribution of hydrogen.
The intention is to create the necessary conditions for more vehicles powered by this type of fuel to circulate with ease and safety.
Celebration of 40 Years in Le Mans
This year’s edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans also has a special tone for Toyota. The participation marks the 40th anniversary of the company’s first appearance in the race, considered one of the most prestigious in global motorsport.
To celebrate, two GR010 Hybrids return to the track with the classic combination of red, white, and black colors.
Between 2018 and 2022, Toyota secured five consecutive victories in the race. In 2023 and 2024, Ferrari took the lead with two consecutive wins.
With the new GR LH2, the Japanese automaker aims to renew its prominent position and establish territory in a new technological era.
