The Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) announced the 2024 Undergraduate Mathematics Announcement, offering 100 spots for the free Bachelor’s degree course in Mathematics at the Porto Maravalley campus in Rio de Janeiro. The selection process aims to identify and attract young talents specifically in scientific and technological careers, promoting affirmative actions to increase diversity in higher education.
The course focuses on developing advanced mathematical skills, emphasizing scientific research and technological innovation. Conducted in-person, the program will offer theoretical and practical classes, as well as seminars and collaborative activities. The course structure aims to prepare students for academic and professional challenges in the field of science.
Available Spots and Locations
There are 100 spots, divided into two admission systems:

Take a free “Drywall Installation” course at SENAI: there are 44 open spots for a 48-hour in-person training, available in the afternoon or evening in São Paulo.
- Olympiad Medalists: 80 spots.
- ENEM: 20 spots.
Within each system, the spots are designated for open competition and affirmative actions, including quotas for women, students from public schools, and black, brown, indigenous, and quilombola candidates.
Classes will be held at the Porto Maravalley campus in Rio de Janeiro.
Selection Process
The selection process will be completed in two phases:
- First Phase: Evaluation of Olympic medal scores or performance in the Mathematics exam of the ENEM.
- Second Phase: Synchronous online interviews, assessing competencies such as tenacity, collaboration, growth mindset, and communication.
Candidates for the quotas must provide proof at the time of registration.
Requirements for Registration
To participate in the free courses, candidates must have completed high school or be in the final year. In addition, medalists must present certificates from the indicated Olympiads, and ENEM participants must provide their scores from 2021, 2022, or 2023. Internet access is required to register and participate in the online interviews.

For Medalists:
- Registrations: 11/29/2023 to 12/28/2023.
- Publication of Selected Candidates for the 2nd Phase: 01/23/2024.
- Interviews: 01/26 to 01/29/2024.
- Final Classification: 02/19/2024.
- Enrollment: 03/01 to 03/14/2024.
- Start of Classes: 02/04/2024.
For ENEM:
- Registrations: 11/29/2023 to 12/28/2023.
- Publication of Selected Candidates for the 2nd Phase: 01/23/2024.
- Interviews: 01/26 to 01/29/2024.
- Final Classification: 02/19/2024.
- Enrollment: 03/01 to 03/14/2024.
- Start of Classes: 02/04/2024.
How to Enroll in the Free Course
Registrations for the free courses can be made until December 28, 2023, on the official IMPA website ( impatech.impa.br ). At the time of registration, the candidate must fill out the form, attach the required documents, and choose the admission system.
