The Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) announced the 2024 Undergraduate Mathematics Announcement, offering 100 spots for the free Bachelor’s degree course in Mathematics at the Porto Maravalley campus in Rio de Janeiro. The selection process aims to identify and attract young talents specifically in scientific and technological careers, promoting affirmative actions to increase diversity in higher education.

The course focuses on developing advanced mathematical skills, emphasizing scientific research and technological innovation. Conducted in-person, the program will offer theoretical and practical classes, as well as seminars and collaborative activities. The course structure aims to prepare students for academic and professional challenges in the field of science.

Selection Process

The selection process will be completed in two phases:

First Phase: Evaluation of Olympic medal scores or performance in the Mathematics exam of the ENEM.
Second Phase: Synchronous online interviews, assessing competencies such as tenacity, collaboration, growth mindset, and communication.

Candidates for the quotas must provide proof at the time of registration.

Requirements for Registration

To participate in the free courses, candidates must have completed high school or be in the final year. In addition, medalists must present certificates from the indicated Olympiads, and ENEM participants must provide their scores from 2021, 2022, or 2023. Internet access is required to register and participate in the online interviews.

Publication of Selected Candidates for the 2nd Phase: 01/23/2024.
Interviews: 01/26 to 01/29/2024.
Final Classification: 02/19/2024.
