The Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) has announced the 2024 Mathematics Undergraduate Program, offering 100 places for the free bachelor's degree in mathematics at the Porto Maravalley campus in Rio de Janeiro. The selection process aims to identify and attract young talents specific in scientific and technological careers, promoting affirmative actions to increase diversity in higher education.
The course focuses on developing advanced mathematical skills, with an emphasis on scientific research and technological innovation. Held in person, the program will offer theoretical and practical classes, as well as seminars and collaborative activities. The course structure seeks to prepare students for academic and professional challenges in the field of science.
Available vacancies and locations
There are 100 places, divided into two entry systems:

- Olympic medalists: 80 places.
- ENEM: 20 vacancies.
Within each system, vacancies are allocated to broad competition and affirmative actions, including quotas for women, students from public schools and black, mixed-race, indigenous and quilombola candidates.
Classes will be held at the Porto Maravalley campus, Rio de Janeiro.
Selection process
The selection process will be completed in two phases:
- First Phase: Assessment of Olympic medal scores or performance in the ENEM Mathematics test.
- Second Phase: Synchronous interviews conducted online, assessing skills such as tenacity, collaboration, growth mindset and communication.
Candidates for quotas must present proof at the time of registration.
Application requirements
To participate in the free courses, candidates must have completed high school or be in their final year. In addition, medalists must present certificates from the Olympiads indicated in the notice, and ENEM participants must provide their scores from 2021, 2022 or 2023. Internet access is required to register and participate in online interviews.

- Interviews: 26 to 29/01/2024.
- Final Classification: 19/02/2024.

For ENEM:
