The Public Defender’s Office of the State of Pernambuco announced the opening of the IV Public Competition for entry into the career of Public Defender. The purpose of the contest is to fill 20 immediate vacancies, in addition to forming a reserve list, for the entry-level class of the career.
The selection will be organized by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) and will include a rigorous evaluation schedule, comprising objective, essay, oral tests, and title analysis.
Salary and Requirements
Approved candidates will receive an attractive initial salary of R$ 25,879.50 and will have a weekly workload of 40 hours.

To apply for one of the vacancies, it is necessary to hold a bachelor’s degree in Law granted by an institution recognized by the Ministry of Education (MEC), in addition to having at least three years of legal experience.
The competition will be valid for two years, and it may be extended once for the same period at the discretion of the Public Defender’s Office of the State of Pernambuco.
This means that, in addition to the immediate vacancies, those approved in the reserve list may be called during this period, depending on the needs of the agency and budget availability.
Stages of the Public Defender’s Competition
The selection process will consist of four well-defined stages:
1-Objective Test: This stage has eliminatory and classificatory character, consisting of 100 multiple-choice questions. The topics covered include Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Civil Law, Procedural Law, Human Rights, among other fundamental themes for the career of a Public Defender.
2-Essay Test: In the second stage, candidates will face two theoretical questions and the preparation of a practical piece. This test aims to evaluate the argumentation ability and the application of legal knowledge in practice.
3-Oral Test: This stage occurs in a public session and consists of questioning on legal topics, being applied by a specialized examining board. The objective is to analyze legal reasoning, fluency of argumentation, and candidates’ presentation skills.
4-Title Evaluation: In this phase, aspects such as complementary academic training, professional experience, and other relevant qualifications for the career are considered.
Candidates must meet the cutoff scores established to advance between the stages of the competition.
Applications and Important Dates
Applications will be open from March 5 to April 3, 2025, and must be made exclusively through the FGV website (https://conhecimento.fgv.br/concursos/dpe-pe).
The application fee is R$ 290.00, and payment may be made until April 4, 2025.
The objective test is scheduled for June 1, 2025, and will preferably be held in the city of Recife/PE.
The exact location will be announced by the organization on the official competition website.
Criteria for Elimination from the Public Competition
The notice provides for various situations that may result in the elimination of the candidate, such as:
Absence in any of the tests;
Use of electronic devices during the test;
Disrespect to the contest rules;
Failing to meet the required minimum score;
Failing to present adequate documentation.
