With the Aim of Participating in an Event in Spain, University Students in Uberlândia Create the First Brazilian Electric Racing Motorcycle That Can Reach 150 km/h
University students in Uberlândia have created the first electric racing motorcycle, and this model will represent Brazil at the MotoStudent, an event now in its sixth edition that is set to take place in Spain in July. At the event, students must develop a high-performance electric racing motorcycle. The electric motorcycle from the university students in Uberlândia goes from 0 to 100 km/h in three to four seconds and can reach speeds of up to 150 km/h.

Understand the Project of the Electric Motorcycle from Brazilian University Students
The main responsible party for the Brazilian electric motorcycle project is the competition team from the Laboratory of Automotive and Urban Mobility (Lamau), Tadarida MotoRacing UFU, with support from the Electrical Engineering Faculty and other students from various courses at the Federal University of Uberlândia. The creator of the electric motorcycle in Uberlândia is Mechanical Engineering student Ruy de Sousa Alves.
According to Ruy, the electric motorcycle has very high potential that cannot be fully explored by the students due to their limitations; however, the project is an electric racing motorcycle, and its structural components were developed with cutting-edge technology, with a large portion of materials sourced from China and other countries, allowing the project to achieve high performance.

Tests of the Electric Motorcycle from University Students in Uberlândia
Before heading to the event in Spain, the university students plan to conduct two tests on the track with a rider. The first test will take place in Uberlândia, on a drag racing track, which is set to occur in about two months.
The second test will be at the Interlagos Racetrack in São Paulo. According to Ruy, we have a rider, Niko Ramos, from São Paulo, who, despite being young, has been competing for many years. He will come to Uberlândia for the test.
Amount Invested in the Project
With the challenges faced in carrying out the project, the team of university students in Uberlândia mobilized to secure resources through selling water at traffic lights, seeking partnerships, raffles, and various other means. And although they have raised more than R$ 120 thousand over two years of hard work, there is a possibility that the electric motorcycle may not go to the Spanish competition.
According to Ruy, the estimated costs for transporting the motorcycle to and from the event and logistics for some of the university students and the rider will be around R$ 40 thousand. Ruy stated that the university students are unable to raise funds in person due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, their only option left is to seek supporters who can make donations starting from R$ 10 through this link.
