The city of Maricá is offering an additional 2,000 free scholarships for undergraduate studies through the University Passport Program from the Department of Education. Approximately 1,000 people attended a presentation event for the new phase of the program this Wednesday, the 27th, at the Cenecista School in the city center.

The event represented the third phase of the undergraduate program. Out of the two thousand scholarships, 135 will benefit participants from the last edition of the program in 2019 who received favorable feedback on their appeals, leaving 1,865 scholarships available for candidates in this stage.
In the distribution of scholarships, 60% of the slots will be allocated to candidates from public high schools (560); 10% for candidates who are municipal public servants (93), 30% of the slots for general competition (from entrance exams, 232) and 48 for medical candidates.

Of these 48 spots, the announcement reserves 10 for the Universidade Serra dos Órgãos (Unifeso) and 38 for the Universidade de Vassouras, exclusively for the first semester of 2020. It is necessary to be approved not only in the program but also in the universities’ selection.
“The University Passport is a major milestone in the city of Maricá. It is extraordinary because we know that the city is growing a lot and that progress is constant,” affirms the undersecretary and program coordinator, Denise Cardim. “The aim of this public policy is to qualify young people, especially those in social vulnerability, so that they have employability within the municipality and have the best job opportunities,” she explained.
With the two previous phases, granting a total of 2,771 full scholarships for academic undergraduate studies, the University Passport is nearing the five thousand scholarships announced at the official launch of the program.
Requirements
Those who are currently enrolled in higher education, who have been approved in the National High School Exam (Enem), or in the entrance exam of the affiliated university can participate in the program.
To participate in the selection process, candidates must be natural-born or naturalized Brazilians, residents of Maricá for at least three years, and provide proof of residence that covers the period, such as electricity, water, phone bills, or credit card statements. A declaration issued by the Family Health Center where the candidate is treated (signed by the person responsible for the unit) is also considered valid proof.

Candidates must also have completed high school or its equivalent – or provide a declaration stating that they are in their third year of high school in 2019, have a family income not exceeding six minimum wages, be approved in the university entrance exam, or have obtained a minimum score of 450 points, without having scored zero on the essay.
Application
It is important to note, however, that the selection process of the Higher Education Institutions (IES) will adopt, as a form of eligibility for spots, the results obtained through curricular analysis and interviews.
This phase must occur prior to the electronic application made through the Program’s Website. The declaration of eligibility must be attached at the time of the electronic application on the program’s website.
