With Offshore Works Expected to Start This Year, Subsea7 Secures Contract with Giant Shell in the Campos Basin

Subsea 7 secured what it claims is a “significant” contract from Shell for the decommissioning of underwater infrastructure off the coast of Brazil, according to offshoreenergy and subsea7.com. The contract calls for Subsea 7 to carry out the decommissioning of the underwater infrastructure associated with the FPSO Fluminense in the Bijupirá and Salema fields, at a water depth of 700 meters.

The Contract and the Works to Be Carried Out

The company’s scope includes disconnection, recovery, and disposal of ten flexible risers, three umbilicals, and nine mooring cables. Offshore works are expected to start later this year, in December.

Yann Cottart, vice president of Subsea7 Brazil, said: “Twenty years ago, Subsea7 installed the flexible risers and umbilicals for Shell’s Bijupirá and Salema fields, and two decades later, we are proud to be one of the contractors chosen by Shell to participate in the completion of this field’s life cycle.”

About the FPSO and the Decommissioning Contract

The FPSO Fluminense, 390 meters long and with an LDT of 51,000 Mt, was commissioned in 2003 in the Bijupirá and Salema oil fields. These fields are located adjacent to each other, about 250 kilometers east of Rio de Janeiro, in water depths ranging from approximately 470 to 800 meters.

Shell formalized a limited notice to proceed (LNTP) with Modern American Recycling Services, Europe (MARS) earlier this year for the dismantling and green recycling of the FPSO Fluminense.
