Piauí receives millionaire investment for the construction of a new photovoltaic solar plant. The project promises to generate 1.200 jobs in the municipality of Ribeiro Gonçalves.

The municipality of Ribeiro Gonçalves, located in the state of Piauí, is building a 393 MW solar photovoltaic plant. In total, the project in the northeastern state will create more than 1.200 jobs. O Cobra Brazil Group, a company from Spain, is responsible for the project.

Photovoltaic solar plant in Piauí will produce more energy than the Boa Esperança dam

Representatives of the Cobra Brasil Group presented to the Governor Rafael Fonteles, last Thursday (05), the progress of the services, which currently has 100 people from the region working at the construction site.

According to Fonteles, the solar plant system, when operational, will produce more energy than the Boa Esperança dam. Soon, the governor will visit the works of this project, which is under construction and creating thousands of jobs. The 393 MW solar photovoltaic plant is larger than the Boa Esperança plant, which was an energy revolution for the state of Piauí in the 70s.

The operations director of the Cobra Brasil group, José Carlos Hernandez, explained that the first work has already begun at the construction site. The estimated start of activities at the solar park is for November 2024. According to Hernandez, the company came to present the progress of works in Ribeiro Gonçalves to the governor. It has been in development for three years.

More than 100 jobs have already been filled, machinery and the company began, in August, environmental suppression works, which are necessary to meet the objective of delivering energy at the end of next year. Afterwards, the earthworks and assembly of the structure will begin and, if everything goes well, by November of next year, everything will be up and running.

Company totals investment of R$4 billion in Piauí

The governor of Piauí also reinforced the state's potential in generating renewable energy, especially solar. They are Spanish investors who also discovered the state's potential in photovoltaic energy generation.

In this way, he always believes that Piauí will increasingly be a leader in the production of renewables. Jaime Llopis, CEO of Cobra Brasil, defended the importance of operating in a state like Piauí, as well as the opportunities and returns that the plant will bring to the population.

According to the executive, the commitment to the state is being reinforced, in this area of clean generation, which is so important. Generating energy is not just generating electricity, it is generating jobs, education, prosperity, health, there are many things that come out of the panels. In addition to Ribeiro Gonçalves, the Cobra Brasil group has solar energy projects in the municipality of Cristino Castro. In total, the company's works represent an investment of R$4 billion.

Piauí is the third state in the ranking of renewable energy production

In July this year, Piauí reinforced its prominent position in the country's energy scenario, ranking third in the country in both wind and solar energy production, according to a June report from the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL).

In this way, the state strengthens itself as a national reference in the generation of renewable energy. In the production of solar energy, in the form of centralized generation, which comprises large projects, production is 1,46 GW in operation, in addition to 867,22 MW under construction and expected to generate another 13,14 GW to be built.

Currently, in this sector, Piauí has 50 photovoltaic solar plants in operation, 27 under construction and 337 yet to be built.
