Eight Additional Wind Farms Authorized in the Municipality of Dom Inocêncio (Piauí), Where the Largest Wind Power Park in Operation in Latin America is Located
The National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) has granted authorization for the operation of eight additional wind farms in the municipality of Dom Inocêncio, in Piauí, where the largest wind power park in operation in Latin America is located. This news reinforces the significant growth of the sector in the state of Piauí. The publication of the ordinances in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) on June 19, 2023, marks yet another important milestone for the expansion of wind energy in the region.
Expansion of Wind Energy Generation in Piauí
The authorized wind farms belong to the company Oitis Renewable Energy, and each has a capacity to generate 5,500 kW of energy. This approval follows the previous authorization granted to the company Enel Green Power Ventos de São Roque, also in Dom Inocêncio (Piauí), for a plant with a generation capacity of 5,700 kW. Just in May, Aneel authorized the construction of 12 new wind farms.
Piauí has stood out as the Brazilian state with the highest growth in wind energy generation. According to the Electric Energy Trading Chamber (CCEE), the state recorded a 24.85% increase compared to wind energy generation in 2021. This growth nearly doubled the national average, which was 12.6% during the same period.

Standout Position of Piauí in Renewable Energies
In addition to the growth in wind energy generation, Piauí is distinguished as the second Brazilian state with the highest growth in renewable energy generation. Between 2021 and 2022, the state recorded a 25.7% increase, ranking just behind Minas Gerais, which had a 26.9% increase in clean energy generation.
Aneel’s authorization for the operation of more wind farms in Dom Inocêncio, Piauí, indicates the ongoing growth of the wind energy sector in the state. With exceptional performance in renewable energy generation, Piauí positions itself as one of the main wind development hubs in Brazil.
These advancements not only contribute to the diversification of the national energy matrix but also boost the local economy, creating jobs and attracting investments to the region of Piauí. The promising future of wind energy in Piauí opens doors for sustainable development and the pursuit of clean and renewable energy sources throughout the country.
