Vietnamese craftsman built a functional wooden Tesla Cybertruck in 100 days, with electric motor, lighting, and a mini Cyberquad for his son.

In 2023, while Tesla was still facing challenges to expand the production of the original Cybertruck in the United States, a craftsman from Vietnam gained worldwide attention by building his own version of the futuristic pickup truck. The person responsible for the project was Truong Van Dao, creator of the channel ND Woodworking Art, who worked alongside his son to create a functional replica made almost entirely of wood. The result was a mini electric Cybertruck capable of actually running and completed in just 100 days.

The project went viral internationally because it was not a static sculpture or a decorative model. The handcrafted Cybertruck received an electric motor, steering system, functional lighting, operational doors, and even a small Cyberquad installed in the bed. The vehicle was developed to be used by Dao’s son and quickly became one of the most impressive automotive replicas ever produced in a woodworking shop.

Construction began with a metal frame before receiving hundreds of hand-carved wooden pieces

Despite the fully handcrafted appearance, the Cybertruck was not built solely with wood. The first step was to develop a welded metal chassis that would serve as the structural base for the vehicle.

According to records published by the channel and echoed by the international press, the structure received wheels, suspension, steering system, and the electrical set responsible for the vehicle’s movement. Only after this stage did the woodworking begin.

Wooden pieces were cut, shaped, sanded, and fitted to reproduce the angular lines that made the Cybertruck famous worldwide.

The geometry of Tesla’s pickup truck is one of the most difficult features to replicate, as practically all surfaces are composed of straight lines and sharp angles.

The vehicle received an electric motor, steering system, and functional lighting

What impressed observers the most was not just the appearance. The replica actually works. Reports published about the project show that the vehicle received an operational electric set installed under the wooden body.

The system allows the handcrafted Cybertruck to move on its own and transport the young occupant on private roads and open areas.

In addition to the motor, the project incorporated front headlights, rear lights, adjustable mirrors, and functional doors.

Even the windshield wiper was reproduced to increase the level of fidelity to Tesla’s original model.

A mini Cyberquad was also built to accompany the pickup

As if the wooden Cybertruck wasn’t enough, Truong Van Dao decided to go further. The craftsman also built a functional replica of the Cyberquad, the electric quad bike presented by Tesla during the Cybertruck’s unveiling in 2019.

The small vehicle was designed to fit in the pickup’s bed, just as in Tesla’s original concept.

To accommodate the quad bike, the bed received a functional tailgate that transforms into an access ramp.

The result made the replica even closer to the proposal originally presented by the American manufacturer.

The interior was also built in wood and reproduces various details of the Cybertruck

A large part of the work was hidden inside the vehicle. The interior received a dark wood finish, hand-sculpted seats, and a dashboard inspired by Tesla’s minimalist design. The steering wheel was also reproduced using crafted wood and polished finish.

According to reports published after the project’s completion, practically every visible detail underwent manual work.

The wheels received decorative elements produced in wood, while the exterior gained a carefully sanded finish to reproduce the flat surfaces that characterize the Cybertruck.

Elon Musk became aware of the creation made in Vietnam

The project gained such a large repercussion that it ended up reaching the founder of Tesla. According to a report by NDTV, Truong Van Dao published a message directed to Elon Musk, explaining his admiration for the company and expressing the desire to gift Tesla with the wooden replica he built. Musk responded to the publication by thanking the gesture.

The recognition helped to further increase the project’s visibility and established the ND Woodworking Art channel as a worldwide reference in handcrafted wooden vehicles.

The creator has already built other impressive vehicles using the same technique

The Cybertruck was not an isolated case. Truong Van Dao became known for creating vehicles inspired by famous models using wood as the main finishing material. Later reports highlighted projects such as luxury cars, concept vehicles, and other creations developed for his children.

The difference is that many of these projects are not just about appearance. Various models receive engines, steering, lighting, and functional systems that allow circulation in controlled environments.

The replica shows how far handcrafted engineering can go when it meets creativity and patience

What made this Cybertruck special was not just the fact that it was made of wood. The impressive part was the combination of carpentry, mechanics, electrification, and attention to detail. In just 100 days, a craft workshop managed to produce a functional version of one of the most talked-about vehicles on the planet.

While the original Cybertruck is built with high-strength stainless steel and advanced manufacturing technologies, the Vietnamese version showed that creativity, manual skill, and hundreds of hours of work can transform wooden planks into something that looks like it came straight out of a futuristic automotive factory.
