Volkswagen Amarok 2025 highline version: 272 horsepower, R$328 thousand and a fierce dispute with the Ford Ranger for the top of the V6 pickup trucks!
With 272 hp, 59,1 kgfm of torque and a starting price of R$328, the Volkswagen Amarok 2025 highline version takes on the new Ford Ranger V6, which is more technological and costs up to R$33 less. (Image: Reproduction)

The battle for the title of best diesel V6 pickup heated up in 2025 with the arrival of the new Volkswagen Amarok 2025 highline version. For a long time, it dominated the market almost single-handedly, but competition from the Ford Ranger brought new challenges. The Amarok's facelift brought specific updates, but is that enough to keep it relevant?

The Volkswagen Amarok 2025 highline version maintains the 3.0 V6 turbo diesel engine, now tuned to generate 272 hp with overboost, leaving maximum power available at the pedal for those who like performance. Despite this, the torque of 59,1 kgfm is slightly behind that offered by the competitor Ford Ranger.

The 4Motion all-wheel drive system, inherited from Audi, guarantees exemplary drivability, especially on curves and roads. However, there are criticisms of the conservative design and lack of innovation in the interior, which, even with comfortable seats and electric adjustments, is simple for the price of R$ 328 thousand.

Amarok vs Ranger: Performance Comparison

Volkswagen Amarok 2025 highline version: 272 horsepower, R$328 thousand and a fierce dispute with the Ford Ranger for the top of the V6 pickup trucks!
With 272 hp, 24,5 cm of ground clearance and a load capacity of 1.124 kg, the Volkswagen Amarok 2025 highline version faces the Ford Ranger V6 in a fierce battle on and off the trails.

The Ford Ranger V6 arrives to directly rival the Amarok. The 0 to 100 km/h performance favors the Ranger, which records 7,9 seconds against the Amarok's 8 seconds.

Despite this, the Amarok excels in curves and in the feeling of control behind the wheel. Both have very similar prices: the Ranger V6 Limited costs R$326, and the entry-level V6 version costs around R$295.

In terms of technology, the Ranger offers more: adaptive cruise control, a more modern digital dashboard and more interior space. The Amarok, on the other hand, fails by keeping a steering wheel similar to the Gol and a multimedia center without major differences, despite offering an excellent air conditioning system.

Worth it?

A Volkswagen Amarok 2025 highline version remains an excellent choice for those who prioritize sporty performance and precise handling. However, with the arrival of the Ford Ranger, it is impossible to ignore that the market now offers more for the same price.

Whether the Amarok still reigns supreme depends on what you value: if it's driving pleasure, it's still one of the best pickups around. But in terms of modernity and value for money, the Ranger seems to have taken the throne.

What do you think? Can the Amarok regain its place or is the reign of the Ford Ranger inevitable?

The opinion is interesting, but it is important to consider the characteristics and performance of both pickups to make a more appropriate choice.

Is this torque of 59,1 kgfm the same as the 258 hp version, not a change to the 272 hp version?
