German Automaker Unveils Futuristic Electric Car Concept Designed for Long-Distance Travel
The Volkswagen Group presented a concept for a futuristic electric car with the intention of rethinking future mobility regarding long-distance travel. The model called Gen.Travel does not come equipped with a steering wheel, and its seats can be slid in any direction to provide as much comfort as possible to the occupants.
The Gen.Travel was envisioned not as a car that everyone can purchase, but as a mobility service that can be summoned whenever needed. Volkswagen dubbed it IEV, which stands for “Innovation Experience Vehicle,” to suggest how long-distance travel might evolve in the coming years. It is expected that the electric car of the future will have a battery with enough capacity to support long journeys, as it is being considered an alternative to using an airplane for short trips. The Volkswagen Gen.Travel is a Step Forward for the Development of First-Class Autonomous Vehicles
The Volkswagen Gen.Travel was designed to be marketed as a high-quality, first-class service. Only the brand name is printed on the front and rear of the vehicle, so if you look closely, you will see that there is no Volkswagen logo on the vehicle. This may indicate that the initiative is a collaborative effort from various brands within the group, or it may simply mean that the manufacturer has yet to determine which brand would be most suitable for the concept of the car of the future.

As the primary objective of Gen.Travel is to transport on long-distance excursions, it will be equipped with an active suspension known as eABC (Electric Active Body Control). This system calculates the vehicle’s movements during acceleration and turns and estimates the amount of body roll that will occur to provide comfort and safety.
Volkswagen states that the artificial intelligence that will be included in the electric car in the not-too-distant future, in addition to guiding the vehicle with the help of radars and sensors, will be able to interact with other vehicles to maximize efficiency.
The Futuristic Body of the Gen.Travel is Divided into Two Halves for Design Purposes

The upper section is a transparent glass cabin, while the lower section is where all the technological components are located. The low frame, which optimizes the external view, is one of the highlights, along with the vertical windshield; the huge gullwing doors provide easy entry and exit from the vehicle.
The German automaker did not provide any information about the motor or the vehicle’s range, but in the photographs, it is possible to see the route from Kessel, Germany, to Lake Garda, Italy. Since there is about 900 kilometers between the two destinations, the Gen.Travel would supposedly have around 1000 kilometers of range if this trip is completed without any stops.
The model will be presented for the first time on September 24, 2022, at the Chantilly Arts & Elegance Fair in France. Volkswagen stated that the Gen.Travel will not be a model that will be produced in series, but rather an investigation into technologies that will be used in the future by all the group’s businesses.
