The Iconic VW Passat From Volkswagen Returns to the Market After 50 Years of Absence in the Automotive Industry, Promising a New Look and Other News Soon.
The automotive market is highly competitive, with various manufacturers and hundreds of models vying for consumer preference. Aware of this, Volkswagen decided to bring back one of the most beloved cars in Brazil. After a 50-year hiatus, the relaunch of the VW Passat has generated great enthusiasm among customers. In this article, we present the new Volkswagen model that was once a great success in Brazil.
Volkswagen Unlocks Memories With the Return of the VW Passat to the Market
Undoubtedly, one of the brand’s most loved models among Brazilians is the Volkswagen Passat, which began production in 1974; however, it was out of production for a period. According to media reports, the VW Passat went out of production in 2020 and stopped being manufactured here in Brazil, mainly due to the devaluation of the real against, especially, the euro and the dollar.
The Volkswagen Passat always stood out among its main competitors; however, due to some issues with the manufacturer, it ended up being discontinued, but the automaker has prepared its triumphant return, marking a big change, as it will no longer have its sedan version in Europe, but only the station wagon variant.

The VW Passat Variant is back, with Volkswagen betting on a new generation to keep alive the legacy of 34 million units sold. The 2024 model offers more interior and trunk space, as well as advanced technologies for greater comfort and fuel efficiency.
The new Volkswagen car is sold in Europe exclusively in the Variant version, measuring 4.91 meters in length, an increase of 14.4 cm compared to the previous model. Highlights include the new Volkswagen Passat Variant offering DCC Plus technology for adaptive suspension adjustment.

China Still Sells the Sedan Version of the VW Passat
The new design of the model closely resembles the electric cars of the brand, and the main changes for those who have owned one of the previous Passat versions are in the interior of the vehicle, which is much more modern than usual.
Although sold only in the station wagon version in Europe, the Volkswagen Passat sedan appears as an exclusive on the other side of the world. The Ministry of Industry, Information and Technology of China (MIIT) has released the first images and specifications of the Volkswagen car in sedan version, which will be sold exclusively in the country.
The exclusivity for the Chinese market makes sense, given that sedans are still popular among consumers there, ranking among the best-selling cars in the country. In Europe, the Passat went out of production as a leader among sedans, but, like in other markets, consumers have been paying more attention to SUVs. The model in China delivers a 1.5 turbo with 160 hp, while the top version delivers a 2.0 turbo with 220 hp.
History of the VW Passat in the Automotive Industry
Launched in Germany in 1973, the Volkswagen car was the brand’s response to the need for modernization against competitors who had already adopted water-cooled engines. Originating from the purchase of Auto Union Volkswagen in 1969, which brought front-engine and front-wheel-drive technology with the K70, the Passat continued the innovation with the model based on the Audi 80.
Arriving in Brazil in 1974, the model quickly adapted to local tastes with its two-door fastback design characterized by straight lines and round headlights, which followed the fashion of the time. Its four-door version, although rarer, marked the versatility of the model which also offered sporty and luxurious options over the years.
