Votorantim Cimentos Signed Contract to Acquire 100 Average MW of Solar Power from Atlas Renewable Energy, Aiming for Decarbonization Journey.
Votorantim Cimentos closed a deal to acquire solar power from Atlas Renewable Energy, aiming to supply 100 average MW of energy for 15 years to its units located in the South, Southeast, and Central-West regions of Brazil. This volume will cover about one-third of Votorantim Cimentos’ energy consumption in the country, which is equivalent to supplying energy to 424,000 homes.
The energy acquisition contract was made under the self-production by compensation model, and the energy will be generated by the Luiz Carlos Solar Project, located in Paracatu (MG). This initiative reinforces Votorantim Cimentos’ commitment to sustainability and the pursuit of clean energy solutions, contributing to the reduction of its carbon footprint and the preservation of the planet.
Votorantim Cimentos and Solar Energy
When operational, the park will have installed capacity of 787 MWp, of which nearly two-thirds (470 MWp) will be allocated to Votorantim Cimentos.

The world has bet on green hydrogen as the fuel of the future, but now faces the side effect: producing 1 kilogram requires about 9 liters of ultrapure water, and the largest projects on the planet are precisely in the driest regions of the Earth, where water is already scarce for people.

Africa has about 500,000 cell towers and most still burn diesel to operate, while companies rush to cover antennas with solar energy and avoid signal blackouts.
-
Farmers swapped diesel for solar panels in Pakistan, powered irrigation pumps almost cost-free, expanded rice fields, and now groundwater has become a red alert in the countryside.

Migrant workers left the world’s largest renewable energy park in India after extreme heat, 12-hour shifts, delayed wages, and poor accommodations at a site that still promises to supply 18 million homes.
Agreement for Renewable Energy Acquisition
The conclusion of the acquisition contract still depends on the approval of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade).
Votorantim Cimentos and the Decarbonization Journey
According to Álvaro Lorenz, Global Director of Sustainability at Votorantim Cimentos, the acquisition of renewable energy is an important step for the company’s decarbonization journey.
‘In all the company units where we operate, our focus is to enhance efficiency and incorporate the use of renewable energy, increasing the volume of self-generated clean energy that we consume and, consequently, our competitiveness, generating benefits for society and the planet’, he says.
Goals of Votorantim Cimentos
Votorantim Cimentos’ goal is to have 45% of the energy consumed globally sourced from renewable sources by 2030. With this new project, 75% of the energy consumed by the company in Brazil will come from clean sources.
Votorantim Cimentos is committed to including photovoltaic solar energy in its operations, and the agreement with Atlas Renewable Energy in Minas Gerais for a solar energy PPA is another step in that direction. This partnership will allow the construction company to reduce its energy consumption and promote sustainability in its activities.
