In The Middle Of The Namib Desert, A Pink Fridge Stocked With Drinks Became A Tourist Attraction And Symbol Of Hospitality In Namibia
In the heart of the Namib Desert, in Namibia, a pink fridge serves as a stop for travelers.
Isolated amid the arid landscape, it offers cold drinks in one of the most arid and ancient regions of the planet.
Temperatures in the Namib Desert can reach around 45 °C during the day, especially in the hotter months.

Six 400,000-year-old teeth found in China contained a protein that was believed to exist only in the mysterious Denisovans: the discovery reveals that Homo erectus interbred with this extinct relative and left a genetic trace that still lives in human populations today.

American donated US$ 5,000 to a Chinese farmer to plant trees in the desert, and decades later the money turned into a forest with more than 50,000 trees.

Almost no ship sails directly between South America and Australia, and the reason is a combination of the vast distance, winds that circle the planet nonstop, and the absence of ports along the way, leaving the South Pacific as a water desert.

More than 85 million homes in China heat water for free with vacuum glass tubes invented at a Chinese university, a cheap technology with no moving parts that faces certification rules and codes in the United States, making installation too expensive.
At night, however, thermometers can drop drastically, with temperatures close to 0 °C in some areas. It is a desert with a large temperature range.
Government Initiative
The installation was made by the Namibian tourism board.
Located about 20 minutes from the main road that crosses the desert, the fridge serves as a modern oasis for those crossing the area.
Powered by solar energy, it is constantly replenished with mineral water, iced tea, and other beverages. The idea is to provide free refreshment to travelers, as a gesture of local hospitality.
Viral On Social Media
Initially, the proposal raised suspicion.
Few dared to open a fridge in the middle of nowhere.
But the situation changed after the initiative went viral on Instagram.
Today, tourists from around the world travel to Namibia to see the unusual tourist spot. The popularity is such that, on some days, the fridge is empty by evening.
The location also features a small metal table and two chairs, all painted pink. The fridge is positioned on a hill, ideal for watching the sunset.
But there is a warning: the chairs are exposed to the sun all day and can get very hot.
Despite appearing to be a mirage, the pink fridge is real. And it has become, against all expectations, one of the most talked-about attractions in Namibia.
